That's just the way NY is the house prices are ridiculous...I believe the market must drop sson, people ca't afford these prices.
Ranch style house is the one with everything on one level, a duplex has the kitchen, living'dining room and a half bath on the first level and bedrooms and full bath upstairs.
Colonial or Ranch not sure yet or possible loft I like those too

Re: What style house?
No joke..
Peter and I were looking at houses out there in Port Jeff and Babylon.....I'm used to New Mexico...like a nice starting house....1600 sq feet.. and all brand new....like 150-175k
that price in ny gets you a studio in the middle of no mans land
I don't get it...why is it soo expensive!!

I own an apt. now so I'm hoping I make a good profit - that's the only way we're going to be able to afford a house in NY. It's crazy!!

Re: What style house?
We probably won't buy a house until we move out of NY. FH is begging me to live in FL. My parents are renovating an apartment for us so we have to live there for a few years before we move.

Colonial or Split Level, but I'm leaving NY just not worth the money.

Re: What style house?
I really don't want a house. I really want a loft in the city or in williamsburg.
Wait...if I do get a house I always wanted a brownstone in Harlem.
