One of the protestors was holding a sign that said 'Thank God for September 11' What the hell is that supposed to mean? How can any 'religion' see that as something to thank God for? Also, what the hell does that have to do with what went on at Mepham?

FMIL's friend in the superintendent at Bellmore-Merrick and this group has been such a pain for everyone there, not like this whole issue wasn't bad enough for the staff over there to deal with.

I am all for free speech but this is ridiculous. They are at a school. Children should not be confronted with this type of hate talk.

I was watching on the news this morning and it looked like alot more that 4 adults. There were alot of them and then the high school kids were protesting that the 'religous' group was protesting.

The 'religous' group was also protesting at the new high school in the city for gays.

What happened at the high school was not an issue of being gay or not. It was an issue of cruelity and sickness. Blaming a lifestyle choice for a crime is just closeminded and stupid.

Not all religions are a cult.

I know. What I said was that all religions start as a cult.

As far as other religious groups getting involved...I doubt anyone would touch the statement that group was making this morning.

Falwell & Robertson were quoted after September 11th as stating that 9/11 was caused by the ACLU, gays, feminists, abortionists, atheists, AIDS, etc. Yes, granted, another extremist...but they aren't as few and far between as most people would like to think they are.

The 'thanks god for 9/11' sign was there b/c they are amonst all other things, anti-American. Their 2nd web site is www.godhatesamerica.com.
They are all nuts, and now I guess they plan on turning their kids into nuts too.

CP-
We already talked about this in another thread. All I'm saying is that these groups are not representative of what are considred religious groups. They are a small minority but unfortunately because they are so hateful they get a lot of attention. I totally agree that involving their children, and holding up signs saying 'Thank God for 9/11' are completely disgusting. Actually their actions do nothing but distract from the real issue which is the criminal conduct of these students.

Obviously what was discussed in the other thread isn't what I was saying. I got your point, but you missed mine.

I never said they were representative of any religious affiliations/groups in any way. Someone mentioned that they were a cult - I in turn, stated a well-documented fact. All religions began as a cult. That's all.

Ok got it. I disagree w/ the cult reference though that's like those ppl from waco.

CP I must disagree that all religion starts as a cult. When I think of a cult I think you have to do what they say and you have no freedom to think or act on your own.

I think its crazy for them to bring their kids in to this. They are adults they are making their own choice, the kids are only going along with what their parents are doing. They are just raising them to be hateful. Its such a shame. Some of those signs are shocking.

Like I said, it's documented. The definition of cult is as follows:

1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP
2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents
3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents

ALL religions had to start somewhere - we weren't just plopped on earth with one religion (though some religions would have you believe that ) and knew from the word go, what to do. Religions have tenets that one is supposed to live by in order to practice the religion. Within Christianity alone, there are how many different religions? They began as a cult - read the definition - and soon became accepted as a bonafied religion.

This isn't what the thread was about - I was just shedding light on the throwing around of the word 'cult'. I would call this group extremist before I would call them a cult, personally.
