What time should reception be?

What time should reception be?

I just booked Leonards and will be getting married on premises. Since I´m in Ecuador my parents did me the favor of going in. They made sure to get everything I wanted in the contract. I made sure to cover every detail with them . . . except the time!!! I totally forgot to go over that with them! The BM put it down for the coktail hour to start at 8:00 which would mean dinner would be 9:00 - 1:00. Isn´t that a little late? It is a Friday but I think it´s also a holiday (april 2nd the friday before Easter). I was thinking brigning it all up 1 hour so that it would be over by midnight. Any thoughts?

If you can, I would push up the cocktail hour to start at 7pm. Then dinner/reception 8-12am. I'm sure you can change it. most places start the evening events around 6pm-630 even on a friday. being that it is a friday however, maybe cocktail hour starting at 7:30ish would be even better so most people can make it to the ceremony before hand.

I agree.. that's really late. I wouldn't do it too early b/c you have to think about traffic on a Friday night before a holiday, so I would say 7pm is perfect for CH, and then 8pm for the reception.

I think your CH should start at 7. Many people are ready to leave around 12 anyway especially if they have a far drive home. You can always party in the hotel after!

I think that would make dinner a bit late... however, if it's a hassle to change, I wouldn't worry too much about it. When people see the time on the invitations, they will know to eat a late lunch.

Mine is on a Friday and I'm having it at 7:30. I think 6-6:30 is a little early depending on where your guests will be traveling from. I have alot not from my area which is why I made it later. My friend was at a wedding last week and the cocktail hours didn't start until 8 so it can be done. I'd go with 7:30.

I think it all depends on what time your ceremony is too. You have to make sure you'll have enough time in between.

My CH starts at 7:30, my reception starts at 8:30 and the whole night ends at 12:30. It's a little late, but if people want to leave, they can leave. Those that want to stay, will stay.

We are having ours from 8-9, then 9-2 (we added the viennesse hour). I was really upste that it was so late at the beginning but we spoke to people and everyone said it would be fine. Your wedding is once in a lifetime and the people that want to stay will stay. Ours is Saturday so most people are off of work and will get some rest beforehand. Since your's is Friday, 8 gives people time to get off of work, go home and change.

I agree with the ladies. 8pm does sound a bit late for the cocktail. For my wedding, the cocktail was from 6-7pm, reception at 7pm with dinner served at 8pm. We had the rest of the evening to schedule entertainment, dance, drink, etc. until the end of the reception at 11:30pm.
