So my church ceremony starts at 1:30 and my family has a history of coming late to things. Thing is, there is a ceremony right after mine, so it absolutely has to start on time.
So for the invitations do I write:
one o'clock quarter past o'clock promptly at half past one o'clock half past one o'clock
and why...TIA

Re: What time to write
Both of our families run on 'Greek' time as the joke goes, but we decided to write the real time on the invitation...as FH said, as long as the important players are present (ie, parents, koumbaroi, bridal party), why should we worry about others showing up late? if they come in late, they lose, not us.

Hey date twin!
I'd put one o'clock because there's another wedding after you and you must start on time. Then, see if you can designate someone responsible that you trust to be the timekeeper that morning, keeping your family on schedule so they get out of the house/hotel and to the church on time.
Also, I don't know how crazy this sounds, but I've been doing this since college.... my alarm clock is permanently set to 10 minutes after the actual real time. Meaning, if it's 9:00am actual time, my clock says 9:10. That way, I have an extra 10 min leeway so I know I'm on time for things. Maybe they can set their alarms for a half hour earlier so they know they have some 'extra' time in the morning to get ready? Just a silly idea.

Re: What time to write
My FHs family is late to everything... My ceremony is at two thirty and that's exactly what I put on the invite... There is a christening a half hour before my ceremony starts so I had to put exact time.. I would go with half past or just write out 'thirty' (that's what we did).

I totally agree with this. I would put 1 o clock because I think the 'quarter past' tips off people that it's not really starting until 1:30, the 'promptly' looks goofy and isn't really formal IMO, and the 1:30 means people will be late.
Even if everyone gets there at 1:27, there will probably be a bunch getting there at the last minute and between valet, getting in, finding a seat, etc you will have people coming late. You're also forgetting traffic, people getting lost, etc.
We don't have to worry about a wedding right after us, but our CH is right afterwards and we also will be starting promptly at 11:30. We put 11 o'clock on our invites because of the reasons I listed above, plus we want to give people time to get settled and our hall serves champagne and strawberries (or mimosas, or whatever we want) when guests arrive.

Re: What time to write
i understand your concerns and i shared them, but i put the correct time...think about it....when you look back on your invites wouldnt you want the correct time your ceremony began? I personally would....and for those who are typically late, tey should have enough common courtesy to arrive on time to such a special occasion

Re: What time to write
I don't trust my family's understanding of time and I don't trust their judgment of how bad traffic can be...
so I am making mine come 1-1/2 hour early. They'll arrive at the cocktail hour though, so plenty to chow until everyone shows for ceremony.
My parents insisted on having cocktail then ceremony then reception... I just got tired of fighting with them ... and now I think this is why they insisted...

Re: What time to write
I would put 1:00...so what they will have to wait a little bit and if they are 15 mins late it still won't be bad. You don't want people walking in when you are about to walk down the aisle!

We have the exact time on our invites. I'd hate for people to get there a 1/2 hour early and wait around. As long as you, FH, your BP and immediate family are there, I don't think you should worry about the others.

That's my opinion too. I'm one of those people who shows up 15 minutes EARLY for things like this. Boy would I be annoyed if I had to sit around for 45 minutes because other people are inconsiderate and late to such a special event! I'm putting the exact time on my invites, and that's when we will start! As long as my FH and I are there, it's all good!

Re: What time to write
put down half past one and make sure your mom lets everyone know that with or without them you will start at 1:30 because the church is being used for other events. Moms are great for this!
