I am meeting with a photographer tonight (and another on Saturday). What are some of the questions I should ask? Are there things you wish you could have had included in the package? I want to make sure to get all my information together before picking!
For me it's important that they have multiple lenses in order to get the wide shots of everyone dancing, lighting concerns if you have a dark hall. What happens if they are sick? Traveling fees? Re-touched photos, full rights to photos, hi-res retouched cd with all the photos...
Always negotiate, for us we included an album when we signed the contract and we were able to get a better deal for the package.

you also want to know exactly WHO you are booked with and WHO is the backup and see examples of the emergency person's work. If going for a second shooter you also want to see their work

THIS!!!!
make sure that they have their company of photographers, not a huge source of freelancers they use.

Here are some questions I made sure to ask about their packages:
- How many photographers will be there that day - # of Hours Included - Cost for overtime - Will you get all the Digital Negatives in addition to printed proofs? - How many thank you cards are included - How many photos per album - How many printed proofs will you get - Are engagement photos included - Online gallery for viewing photos?

Here's the list I made:
Style: Traditional, photojournalist
Do you shoot in a digital format that can create both color and b/w versions of the same picture?
What kind of input can we have on the direction of the shots? Can we give you a shot list/preferences to work from?
Assistants, extra charge?
Photo correction?
Worked at My Venue/Church before?
How long until receive photos?
Do I get to proof the layout of album?
Digital Negatives? CD photos available for reprint or only through them?
When is balance due?
Gratuity included?
Cancellation terms?
Only wedding that day?
Travel expenses?
Fees for changes in album?
Add things to package later on (i.e. thank yous, addnt photos, enlargements)
Back up equipment/Photographer?
Available to see online?
How many photos taken?
How much time alotted for family and bride&groom photos?
