Hello all, My FH and I do not want kids at our wedding reception for a couple of reasons. My problem now becomes what to do about our OOT guests' kids. The people I'm worried about would be our cousins and their kids(most of whom we have never met and most are under the age of 10). I haven't sent out invitations yet, but expect my cousins to respect my 'Adults Only' wishes. But I think this means they won't come to the wedding then. I really want my cousins to come to the wedding and have thought about a few things we could do...like reccommend a list of babysitters. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well how old are some of the children that the OOT guests would 'Have' to bring. I mean, could they get someone on the opposite side of the family to watch them/babysit? You can always try and find a sitter around you and see if they would be interested in watching the OOT guets kids....

Basically, I just invited people and made it clear it was adults only.... i think that people have enough friends and family members (i.e. in-laws and others) that they really should have no excuse to not be able to find a babysitter. i didn't worry about this too much, because it's something they need to take care and you really shouldn't have to feel burdened. basically, their kid so they they take care of it!

we had the same problem. we hired 2 babysitters at the OOT hotel and contacted our friends specifically with the details.

We have provided people with a list of babysitters (that our friends use, so we know thay are good). They can have them babysit at the hotel. People seem to be OK with this.

it might sound funny, but we are having the same kind of problem relating to our rehearsal dinner!
we're inviting some kids to our wedding (family only), but aren't sure how those parents are going to deal with it since we are doing an adults only rehearsal!!!

We are having kids at our wedding - about a dozen, However, I know others that did one of the following
1) Provided guest with a list of available recommended babysitters
2) Bride and groom paid for a babysitter at the hotel
3) Someone you know and trust, but not 'close' enough to be invited watch the kids (of course offer to pay them as well)
Maybe a work associate or distant relative / friend of the famil

Re: What to do about kids and OOT guests?
We originally wanted no kids other than neices and nephews.
But then we wound up having kids because many OOT guest wouldn't be able to make it or would come alone without their spouses because they had no one to watch the kids. So we ended up having the kids come and it worked out really well. I was so happy to have all of our family members there at the wedding.

We are having about a dozen, and they are all nieces and nephews - and we are both very close with our siblings so it wasnt an option

Re: What to do about kids and OOT guests?
I like the idea of hiring a sitter at the hotel, but I'm stumped by the logistics! We live about 45 mins. from the hotel. If we're all staying at the hotel, how does the sitter get home? Do we get her a room too?
This sounds like one of those Algebra problems...
If anyone has tackled this, suggestions welcome!

I am having the same problem and I don't think my family would go for a baby sitter - I think i might have to just deal with about some extra kids at the reception!

Re: What to do about kids and OOT guests?
When I was a child my parents were invite to numerous OOT weddings where I was not invited. And many of them for friend (not even relatives) and they went to every single one without complaining. We (my brother and I) stayed with either grandparents. It wasn't a big deal to my parents, probably because they had an adult only wedding. It still boggles my mind when people just don't understand NO KIDS INVITED!!!!!

Re: What to do about kids and OOT guests?
If your reception is adults only, do you have any cousins, friend's kids, or does your FH have any cousins that are like 15-18ish? (I.e. family, but still not old enough for the reception)
You could ask them to babysit if need be... (and your cousins may appreciate it being someone you know well, not just a local babysitter...)

Def have a babysitter set up for all the kids. Maybe your hall has a room for this or a nearby hotel room- maybe at the hotel you recommened for your guests. That way they dont have to worry and can enjoy the night. If there are a lot of kids- maybe over 4, have 2 babysitters.

FSIL hired babysitters to stay at the hotel with the kids of OOT guests and the little ones that were in the wedding. The babysitters were her sister's extended family so they were not strangers. I'm sure that your cousins would understand and may be ok with this.

Re: What to do about kids and OOT guests?
I didn't realize the thread came up again. I decided to use the babysitter thing, and there is even a vendor that provides these services. I was going to have them do it at the hotel. I let my cousins know... and it turned out that they didn't trust anyone but their parents (who are invited to the wedding) or their personal babysitters. So I have 3 sets of cousins that have already told me they can't make it (and the STDs haven't even gone out yet). Either way...I felt the babysitters in the hotel would be the best choice. oh well.

I may be in the minority here but if you want them to come, hire a babysitter.
I have a friend who's dad's side of the family didn't come because of the kids. They were coming from out of state and needed to bring the children.
