What to do? Cat related.

What to do? Cat related.

My cat has been losing her hair!
It's been a long aggrivating proccess of vet visits.
We've tried to change her food, liter etc . . .
The only thing that seemed to work was a steroid shot.
The vet told us that we can't keep giving her the steroid shots because it's bad for her.

So . . . . I gave in and go the blood test for her to see what the allergies are. $275 later, she has 26 allergies plus lots of food allergies!

So . . . the remidy is, to totally change her diet and to give her daily/montly shots that I would have to administer myself!

I don't think that we can afford in the longrun to give her these shots!

I am thinking of changing her food, and maybe that will solve the hairloss issue.

DH wants to put her to sleep! I can't bring myself to do that because I love her, she is healthy and playful! except for the allergies! But, I can't afford the constant vet visits and the shots!

What would you do?

hi i am sorry to hear about your cat. is she is pain???

how old is she??

unless she is elderly and in pain..i wouldnt jump the gun and put her to sleep.

ok some may think i am nuts...bu honestly i have heard of people taking cats to holistic vets.... ther are some that are wayyyyy cheaper than reg vets and often can realllllly help with allergies.

i knwo somone who spend 2k on shots etc etc for her allergic cat... but found an holistic vet that was 20 bucks a week for while for special drops to put in her food and helped her soo much..( not a vet i know of though)

you might want to check that out...unless of course your kitty is in pain..and in that case sometimes its the most humane thing to do..

I don't think she is in pain. She doesn't cry or whine. She is just constantly licking and licking and licking! She is only 5 years old and healthy and playful.

My landlord suggested this pet supply place in deer park, that sells holistic foods. I am going to go there with my list of allergies and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into the holistic vet.

In the meantime, maybe you can have a groomer shave her...I did it to with mine and its great. They don't shave them hairless, they still have about a 1/2 inch of hair and they look soooo cute!! They leave the paws and tail w/hair so they look like a cute mini- lion.

My cat probably hated getting it done, but there are no hairballs anymore, no shedding, nothing. It is such a clean feeling.

So maybe you can do that so there isn't hair all over while you find out what the allergies are?

One of my cats has allergies too - FH couldn't stop laughing about that.

Actually, I gave her some antibiotics for awhile and about once a week I give her 1/2 of a human antihistamine.

Believe it or not it worked!

please please please....whatever you do, do not put her to sleep. i understand the overwhelming feeling of having to foot expensive vet bills, but it's a responsibility you took on when you adopted her. i work for an animal shelter and there are too many people that give up on their pets when it's no longer easy or cheap to care for them. if your cat is healthy in all other ways and is not in pain, please consider all other options.

I wouldn't put my child to sleep if he/she had lots of allergies, so I wouldn't put my cat to sleep either. Try finding a holistic vet who will help you prepare your own meals for your cat. It def. sounds like you need to switch vets anyway.
