WHAT TO DO FIRST?????

WHAT TO DO FIRST?????

OK very first thing, I know, replace the toilet seats.

But the 2 things that we want to do immediately is paint and refinish the floors.

So which do we do first?????

Do we paint first this way we don't have to worry about the floors? But the we have to worry about all the dust getting into the new paint if it were not completely dry!

If we do the floors first, then we have to worry about the floors while painting! Also we would have to scrub the walls first, because of the dust!

Any suggestions? Both have pros and cons!

I would paint before you do the floors.
We had the same question when doing our dining room.
We didnt want to get paint all over our newly refinished wood floors.

I would paint before floors too. Danielle and I are doing the same thing with our apartment, except we are getting new carpet after we paint.

We are painting first, then getting new carpets.

I agree to paint before the floors... however, if you are refinishing hardwood... I strongly suggest you are not in the house while the polyurethane is drying.... the fumes will knock you out.

I would have the floors done first, than paint.

If you were putting carpet in than I would paint first. The big sanders that they use, can really bang up the floor molding or the walls if you don't have molding. Plus the amount of dust that is left behind, you will need to clean the wall real well either way you go.

If the paint is dry, I wouldn't worry... we had no problems in my mom's house and we did put the molding on after the floors were done.

That is what I was thinking. We are refinishing most of the floors. DH LOVES hardwood. we will only be carpeting the bedroom and since we only ordered our set 2 weeks ago it is not here yet so we have time to do the carpet

But it was the hardwood floors that I was worried about. Not I wonder since the hallways are not exceptionally wide, I wonder how much they are going to bang up the walls. I love the color that the hallway is painted and was going to leave the paint up since she just painted them a few months ago!

Hi Jaimie!

Congrats on the house - great news!!!!

DH and I went through this when we moved in and my dad who is a contractor said to paint first and then do the floors. It was great - we spilled stuff all over the place - it was fun

The guys who did my floors cleaned after they were done - I had a miniscule amount of dust and it was pretty much just on the sills of the windows, nothing else.

When you have your furniture delivered make sure you call them beforehand and tell them that you just had your floors done and to take extra precaution. Everyone who I ordered from was really great about it and put down mats and blankets.

Enjoy decorating - its so much fun!!!!!!
