sorry if this is a stupid question i just dont know what to do first.
my fh says paint first then replace carpet. but it doesnt sound right?
What did you do first?
i thought that if we painted first then took up the rug that the rug dust/dirt or whatever is under there would mess up the paint on the wall.
help thanks

I would paint then change the carpet, this way you don't have to worry about drips or anything else accidently getting on your new carpet.

What we did, since we knew we were replacing the carpet right away.
We ripped up the carpet first, then painted... this way when painting the floor molding we did not have to be too careful about getting paint on the floor.
It may also save money on your carpet install because they won't have to rip it up themselves.

My painter said we should replace the carpet first, since during installation they can mark up the baseboard trim. He put down drop cloths and put the blue painters tape on the carpet along the edge of all the walls. No paint on our carpets, and we didn't have to do touchup after the carpets were laid.
