What to do if you didn't get a gift?

What to do if you didn't get a gift?

We have a few people we didn't have a card from at our wedding. We don't know if they didn't give us one or if it got lost or stolen. What is the best way to go about finding out without being tacky? If they gave a gift and it was lost I don't NOT want to send a thank you... but at the same time if they didn't give something I don't want to thank them for something they didn't give... do we just explain that we didn't have a card and wanted to make sure it didn't get lost? Help!

Nothing.
The people that didnt get a gift dont get a thank you.

we also had a few non givers.

I did send everyone a thank you card though. Since most of our guests were from out of town, I thought it was the right thing to do.

We thanked them for coming and said we hope they enjoyed their visit to NY. that's it.

my TY's went out this past Monday, so I'm sure everyone got theirs by now. I am curious to see if anything is sent now... although I highly doubt it

Not ours Thank God. I would have no clue what to do. We thought we had one of those, but when we came home from the HM we had a card with check waiting for us in the mail.

That is such an akward situation...very uncomfortable.

That's such a great question because we have a couple also and I wasn't sure how to go about that...

Unfortunately there is not much you can do, we had a few and didn't say anything i would never go to a wedding and give nothing! Not even if I was broke, I would still give a small gift...

i wouldnt NOT send a thank you

BIL didnt give us a gift and lied and said he did adn we lost it and would give another ( which he never did) and we later found out he never gave us one in the first place

but we still sent a thank you for coming and being a part of our wedding.
i know its rude not to give a gift, but its even ruder to not awknowledge them coming

When I was 16 I was invited to a wedding, alone, anyways, I just gacve a card (I know, very tacky, but I was young and broke and didn't realise how bad this was ) well, anyway the brides mother called me and said 'I don't know if you realise this, but, you forgot to put money in the envelope!!!'

So, I asked my mom to write me a check and I sent it.....

There's a whole thread on this on the Newlywed Board. Basically, those that didn't give a gift, probably didn't. Unless it's a close family member that you feel comfortable asking, chances are the person just didn't give anything. It happens. Be glad it's a few...more than 50% of our guests didn't give a thing. Thank God DH and I prepared ourselves for this and weren't expecting anything, so what little we did get we took as a blessing.

One is my cousin, who called before the wedding to see where we were registered (he is from CA- they do things different there) but we never got a gift or a card so I am not sure about it... The other is from one of his cousins so i thought maybe I'd have his mom ask his aunt (cousins mom) if she knew if he gave us anything.

I was figuring on sending the thank you just for coming to the wedding but I feel like if they did give a gift and it was lost that just thanking them for coming tot he wedding might be insulting...

Luckily I haven't even gotten my proofs yet so I still have some time to figure it out and wait and see!!

Re: What to do if you didn't get a gift?

Granted i haven't gotten married yet so i don't know if this will happen to me (I SO HOPE IT DOESN'T), but if it does... i would definitely say something. There is no way i'm letting people get away with that. Of course i would do it in a round about way. And i don't care if its rude because they deserve to feel like an ***. THEY ALL KNOW BETTER! If 50% of my guests didn't give a gift like the previous post mentioned above... i'd be outraged! If you don't have the money... than don't come at all. JMO. I know i should be happy to have whoever the person is, come, but this wedding stuff is just too expensive to let it slide. Especially if you are the one paying for it and not your parents.

I actually received gifts from everyone, but 2 checks bounced. I don't know what to say to the couples... I think the bank notifies them, right???

I hope your perception of this changes, because it's not about the presents...it's about having those nearest and dearest witness your commitment and love. If it gets 'too expensive' then you could always cut the guest list. JMO, but weddings aren't about gifts and money and your guests shouldn't feel obligated to bring a thing, yes you're inviting them, but I hope you're doing so because they mean something to you, not because of their future gift...DH and I were so happy to see our family and friends there - that was present enough.
But to each their own. I hope you don't get dissapointed.
