What to do next?

What to do next?

Hi everyone, now that we finally have the reception place we are starting to move onto the next step. My question is, what did everyone do next? I know we need to get the photographer and the dj, but what one do you think we should focus on first. And any suggestions as to good djs or photographers would be really really helpful too! Thanks!

That's what I did too! First we booked our ceremony & reception (they're at the same place), our officiant, then photographer and DJ. I am using Imagine Studios for photo and video, and Body Rock DJ. We planned our honeymoon soon after.

Good luck with your planning! Everyone on this website is very helpful.

After we booked the church and hall, we then worked on photographer and videographer. We are using Marcy Studio for photography and Bellarino for videography.

Edited to add: By the time we were engaged a month, I had all my major vendors booked (church, hall, photographer, videographer, DJ and limo) and I had already started buying little things.

I see youre not getting married till October - to be honest since you already have the reception location, the next thing I would do is enjoy your summer!

We got engaged last June, booked the place two weeks later and didn't book anything else till September. It was nice to just be engaged and enjoy that time without running around like a crazy person from vendor to vendor! Although if you need a church make sure your date and time is available asap.

Just my two cents worth.

Edited to say, I did start to look for dresses a month or so later but thats b/c I thought it was fun!

I'm at the same point you are. I'm doing photography/video first, then music. I checked out Patken, Artisan Photography & Media Group and Jovon. Artisan is my favorite. Patken is too cookiecutter, too posed and not enough pictures. Jovon's work is beautiful, but they're a little stuffy and way too much $$$. Artisan's work is on the same level as Jovon, but much more affordable.

I can't decide whether to use a DJ or Band. Suggestions?

Thankx

Nylisa...very impressive, you must be very organized! How did you do that all so quickly?
Jennyg...thank you for letting me know that I'm not so behind! We had decided to take our time and enjoy the engagement, but I am starting to worry that vendors will be booked.
We have our church already so that's set, and I know that I want to wait until October to do the florist so I can see what flowers are available then. Do you think I should book a florist now anyway? I can't wait to go try on dresses!

Re: What to do next?

Stephanie1103...we decided we would like a dj because we want to hear 'our' song (and other songs) by the original artists. A dj also fits into our budget better, so we can spend more money on other things. It's really a personal choice between you and your FI.

Re: What to do next?

We did everything early because we did not want to use the vendors that we wanted and we were able to pay 2002 prices not 2003 or 2004 prices. We saved ourselves alot of money by doing this.

get your photo and video now... places book up, and the best people book up..
*the most used on the boards*
for photo you should check out Patken
for video you should check out Bellarino and Wild Rose

Re: What to do next?

Fallin04 - I booked the rest of my vendors not more than a year in advance and had no problems with availability at all. Go look at dresses and do what youre doing as far as narrowing down vendor choices. I wouldn't get yourself crazy with any of it for a couple of months. I think sometimes this board can make you more stressed b/c you think you are so far behind! Just as an example, I'm a September bride and alot of the other Sept brides have already sent out their invitations - which I won't do until the middle of July. Do what works for you and it will all fall into place! Good luck and HAVE FUN.
