What to do w/ an 8 Y.O.

I will have my 8 year old step daughter for a month this summer. What are some good things I can do with her? I will also have my 4 month old in tow.

If it is not to hot you can go to the ecology park in Holtsville, there is a park and a small zoo there. =

The LI Childrens Museum would be good for the 8 year old

There is zoo, game farm and aquarium out near Riverhead. We went to the game farm (I think its called LI game farm) and it was really cute. Not too big and plenty shady. They had a few rides, 2 or 3, but they were included in the price of admission which was nice instead of paying $2 every time.

The LI Game farm is in manorville
There is also the aquarium, a dinosaur wax museum, and a boat tour of the peconic bay that is kind of cute in riverhead. The boat tour takes you out to a little island and shows you all of the different wildlife and shows you what seaweed you can eat. (my cousins loved it, but they were boys... maybe not the best thing for a girl )

If she's a tomboy and likes baseball there is the LI Ducks.

Along the north fork there is a teddy bear factory, farmstands with pick-your-own fruit, a carosel and boat rides in Greenport - might be fun if she's a city girl and doesn't get to see farmland.

The Martha Washington paddle boat in Port Jeff was fun - only an hour, and there is a good ice cream parlor right across the street.

Don't forget the beach The planetarium and miniature golf could be fun too. Also, for those days you want/need to spend inside there's always cooking/baking projects, arts & crafts, etc. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. It's hard to amuse a child everyday.
