So, as you know- I got mini wedding jars as a favor to go along with a donation I wanted to make to the North Shore Animal League. Now, after adding up what my purchase is going to be for almonds and the mini jars, we are at almost $200!!!!
FH and I originally wanted to make about a $300 donation... and I decided on favors last minute bc I realized the guests should leave with something in their hands.
Now, we would still need to order donation cards and make a donation. Ughhhh now I dont know what to do!!! We dont have $400 to be throwing around for favors and donations....trust me, if we werent paying for the whole wedding alone- Im sure we could afford it....
But now its like.... should we just NOt do the donation?? I am really happy with the wedding jars, but I dont know if its going to look too cheap..... What would you ladies do if it were you and you and Fh were paying for the whole wedding?

Re: What To Do.... What To Do....
Can you maybe put different types of candy in the jar instead of all almonds which can be pricey? At my cousins wedding they had an assortment of candies in a favor box as their favor and people loved them because they were able to have chocolates and other types of candies.

Get M&M's! You can buy them bulk at Bj's or Costco and I think it would be much cheaper than almonds.

I agree, maybe pick a cheaper candy so you can still do the donation. It would be a shame not to do the donation.

Re: What To Do.... What To Do....
also dont order donation cards...DIY. I did most of the paper items for my wedding at home and no one would even be able to tell the difference. I paid for the wedding myself so I know what a few dollars here and their can add up to.
Go with another type of candy and do the donation cards yourself and you will still be able to make the donation

How about making a smaller donation then?

I agree I would say do a different candy or make a smaller donation. I never ate those almonds when I got them at weddings.

Why don't you post a sign or a poem at the seating card table that explains about your donation instead of making donation cards?
Since you're doing favors already, no one will really be looking for anything else (not that they should anyway!!) and that's definitely somewhere people are always looking at the beginning of the wedding, so they'll all see it.
You can get a nice frame and print something at home as a DIY explanation of your donation if you want everyone to know about it.

Did you call NSAL??? Maybe they will provide the donation cards. I know that the Leukemia Society is giving us the donation cards.

ITA This is what i was going to suggest.
If you dont want to go with cheaper candy and have your heart set on almond candies (i know its traditional for some cultures) , you can make a smaller donation and/or just put an annoucnment in a frame by the favor table if you have one or on the place card table. Also- as some others mentioned many organizations provide you with a scroll or tag that indicates that you made a donation.

I know right??? Can you believe the whole point was to do a donation in the 1st place ughhhh its just so frustrating!!!!
Do you guys feel like donating something close to $100 is good enough? I feel like I would be embarrased to only donate $100 and that its not enough

It's absolutely good enough. It's still 100 dollars that they otherwise wouldn't have had to pay for food, shelter, and medicine for an animal in need.
I mean, it's obviously your final decision, and you have to do what's best for you and FH's budget, but you know my feelings on animal matters. I'm in the same boat, my favor expense is shooting way up (well, more of a normal budget now haha, it was too low to be feasible in first place) because of the almonds and organza, but I am most certainly still giving to the shelter because I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I prevented a kitty from being comfortable for an almond.

Omg Ali, you are totally right.... I should just s uck it up and donate regardless. Its not that I dont have the $100, its just that I am going to be spending more than I really wanted to on favors. You want to know the worst part.... I DONT EVEN LIKE ALMONDS!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
