What to do with my dress?

Hey, so my dress just came in today. But my wedding is not for another 11 months! I'm not sure what to do with my dress. I got it from David's Bridal but I don't think I want them to do alterations since I want to add some appliques and hopefully make the train a little longer. I don't want to start alterations now since I'm planning on losing a boat load of weight (hopefully) before the wedding. So any suggestions would be helpful. Also any recommendations on where to get alterations would be great, preferably in Brooklyn or the city, that can add the appliques as well.

What to do with my dress? - Long Island Weddings

I would look into places that will store your dress for you until 2 months before- you want to make sure the dress stays the perfect color and everything. Most dress places store them for you, but maybe if you talk to a salon and they agree to do your alternations, they will also store it for you.

if you decide to store it yourself at home, just do not put it in a plastic bag because it could discolor the dress. My FMIL stored her dress in acid-free tissue and put it in a cardbox box (or your david's bridal box). She always said to wrap white things like handkerchiefs, dresses, etc. in blue tissue paper. Not sure why it should be blue, but my FH's handkerchief and christening gown from when he was a baby is perfectly white!

Maybe a cleaners would store it for you. They would know how to take care of it and can press it for you when you're ready for it.

Thanks girls!! I have to go pick it up soon or they'll send it back to the warehouse. I'll probably store it at my mother's house. And now it's time to focus on losing this weight! lol
