I have a 13 -year old cousin who I'd like to include in some way in the wedding, however, not as a jr. bridesmaid. She can be a little too much to handle at times and I don't really want her around the wedding party all day long. What can I give her to do that will make her feel important for the day? I was thinking of having her hand out the programs to the guests as they walk in. My mother wants her to walk down the aisle though. I don't know. I want to do the right thing for the family but I am not sure how to handle it. Do you have any good ideas?

One of FH's cousin's will be 12 and we have him doing a reading during the ceremony.

Would you tell us a little bit more about this? If she's not good in crowds, gets flustered easily, likes public speaking, etc. Does she even want to be involved directly in the wedding? Knowing more about her will help shape the responses.

Re: What to do with tween age cousin?
Everything you said is true. She doesn't like crowds and does not like to speak in public but the family is pressuring me to include her in the wedding. She is pretty annoying. She gets in the way and almost always causes a problem. I'm probably just going to give in and make her a jr bridesmaid I just would like to avoid it if I could.
The program thing was just something I thought of. We are having programs made up for the ceremony and instead of just placing them on everyone's seat I thought it would be an honor for her to hand them out as guests come in and she can direct the guests to the correct side of the room.
Thanks. Any suggestions you have would be great.

You could go a few different ways: 1. Jr. Bridesmaid 2. Hand out programs 3. Reading 4.If you are catholic and you are having amass, she could bring up the gifts

Do you have any younger kids in the wedding being flower girls or ring bearers? Maybe you can put her in charge of the younger children - like she has to make sure they're all set, have their flowers or the pillows with the rings, and can help them walk down the aisle or something like that.

If you are doing a guest book or bubbles she can be the 'attendant' to those items as well.

My little sister was 13 and was a BM. She did a fine job and loved it!
If you do not want her in the BP, handing out programs seems like a good idea.

I like all these ideas. My 14 yr old cousin was in my bridal party as a BM-just made her a regular BM since my BP was all cousins cept my MOH (Mom's pressure) and what i did was gave her tasks: She wa sin charge of my bouqet and my purse. She was sent to run errands on the day of-she is hyper so keeping ehr moving worked for us.
Make her feel important. Like send her to make sure all the table cards are set up or if you're doing table numbers, that they are all on ther right tables (might want to send her with an adult for this). I let my cousin take the box of our table number frames and arrange them with the rose petals around. Small things like that made her feel like she was 'really helping.'
