What to expect at pre-cana??

We are starting pre-cana soon and I am a little nervous about the whole process. FH is not very religious and we live togeather. If anyone could tell me a little bit about their experience and what to expect or be prepared for I would greatly appreciate it!

Ours wasn't that bad. We did the one day session. Our leaders were a couple married 50 years; they were really great.

We each got a workbook per couple. The leaders discussed each topic, then we separated into 2 groups, to fill in the worksheet. When the couples got back together, they discussed the worksheet amongst themselves. Our answers were not discussed aloud.

We also went around the group and mentioned how each of us met.

Good luck,
Donna

One day how nice for you. Ours is 6 weeks long, one day a week for three hours.

A lot of our answers were discussed aloud or as a group, which I found annoying, but didn't feel pressured to talk any more than what I was comfortable with. I can't say ours was great, but don't worry about it, it is not scary or weird. WE did the 1 day thing also and I think how good the sessions are depend a lot on the couple who runs them.

I would also say about half of the couples in our group lived together already.

We did it in 5 weeks. We went to a lead couple's house every Sunday. The first Sunday, we dreaded because we didn't know what to expect. Afterwards, we really enjoyed it and met some other couples. One of the couples in my group is getting married at the same time, the same day as we are. WE thought that was nice
We had two lead couples instead of one which is the norm. They had questions and topics and everyone in the group will answer. Two hours went by quickly and no one noticed because you get really engaged in the topics and conversations if you have a good group like I think we did. Then they had a closing and a little party afterwards when all sessions are over.
We expected not to like it and it wasn't bad at all. Good Luck !!!

Re: What to expect at pre-cana??

We have 4 sessions with 2 lead couples - and we only have one session left. FH was dreading it! Now even he has admitted that it is 'kinda fun.' I've really enjoyed it.

I'm glad though that we had couples leading the sessions who were fairly young and nonjudgemental. I had friends (not on LI) whose parish priests ran them and they had a much different experience. But I think the couples are more likely to be accepting of people living together, and other things that a priest may look down upon.

Good luck!

Re: What to expect at pre-cana??

for us it was 4 weeks for 2 hours in a couples home we had 2 team leaders. 1 couple was in their late 40's early 50's and the other 70's. It was OK. I found it annoying and didnt believe in some of what was said. and the group we had this one couple who just wouldnt shut up and took us off topic all the time. so I was like ugh when is this over. wish is was 1 on 1 with the leaders, they were nice! but we still have 2 more meeting a final prayer and something else but we meet in the church now. so I guess its a 6 week thing. have fun!!!! and like someone said dont feel pressured to speak- I didnt want strangers knowing too much of my private info. and the less you say the more the leaders get on with it and you can get out early!
