I have mentioned a few months back about my friend who had a brain tumor, operated, and was on the way to recovery but had a few setbacks...
I spoke with him tonight..he definitely needs some more speech therapy...it really really breaks my heart to have him in this position....he lost some movement in his right side too...cannot chew on the right or move his right arm...
Anywyas, I am going to be in LI this weekend, and am going to stop by to see him, but I want to bring some kind of 'Feel better' gift///buit do not want to insult him by bringing food that he cannot eat....
ANy suggestions on what to bring to him?? I was even thinking of maybe some kind of teddy bear!! LOL...even tho he is over 40...with a wife and 3 kids....I am clueless on what to give....Normally I would bake or cook something for guy friends, etc...but this is a special guy in a special situation, and I want to do this...
ANy ideas would be APPRECIATED!!

i htink somethign homebacked would be good - then he can share it with his family and it shows that you cared enough to spend the time to bake something for him. to him and his family!!

Blockbuster Gift Certificate. That may come in handy for a while. Or maybe make him up a basket with some movies, a little stuffed animal, some s*cking candies or easy to chew stuff and maybe a gift certificate to Carvel.

I agree with the Carvel and Blockbuster gift certificates. I would try to avoid giving him any food, though, since he's having a hard time chewing.
Does he read? Maybe a few novels from the best seller list?

I like blockbuster idea a lot. Maybe a basket full of stuff like crossword and some stuffed animals so the kids can have something to play with while sitting with him?

One of my favorite books is Lance Armstrong's - 'It's Not About the Bike' - about his fight against cancer ... it's very inspirational and a good gift for anyone facing a challenge - medical or otherwise.

You girls are soo helpful and thoughtful!! I think I might go with the Blockbuster/Carvel combo....No sense in stuffed animals for the kids, they are older now...16,14,13...
He does love NASCAR>..maybe I can get like a NASCAR teddy or something....just so he knows I am thinking of him, altho I know he knows already...this diagnosis took a bit of a turn, he ended up having to hve 2 operations, staying there 12 days insrtead of 3-5....he is making progress, but its going to be a long recovery...when he talked to me tonight he said one of his goals is to be able to dance with me on my wedding day, so I think he will be much better by then...its just so sad seeing a father figure suffering and having to be so vulnerable....
Don't really want to ramble...he is constantly in my thoughts and prayers and any extras would be appreciated....He gets upset talking about it....and I get upset thinking about it....but he is on the road to a loong recovery period---Thank God for that!
