What to look for in a Photographer?

I know ladies have said before that finding the right photographer/package is difficult. What things should I be looking for? What makes a good photographer?

A lot of their pics look the same to me.

'good' is a relative/subjective term...it's what YOU LIKE that counts!

my approach to selecting a photographer was as follows:

1. scoured the web
2. checked out people who offered services starting at $1000 to 10K.
3. analyzed the images and asked the questions 'do i like this' and 'why'
4. met with photographers
5. looked at albums of individual events (not just a portfolio that showcases their 'best work')
6. started comparing 'packages' (all the extras were not important to me as i will be creating my own album, but to get an idea of price markup was interesting)
7. went with my gut!

First and foremost you have to like the stuff he shows you. There are many places that show you pictures taken by photographers that don't even work there anymore so you should always ask who's work it is and is he available. Secondly you & your FI should feel completely comfortable with him especially since this person will be with you the whole time taking pictures. Thirdly, the photographer should be honest enough to tell you what package is sufficient and not try to sell you things you honestly don't want or need.

The above things are obviously JMO

I couldn't have said anything better than the responses you already have. For me, it was important to feel like we could be ourselves with the photographer b/c we can get very silly.
