my friend wants to give me her veil and her bridal little bag. this is from her wedding last yr w/the marriage lasting about 7 months only. I didnt want to hurt her feelings, cause she is so nice to offer, but I really dont want to use anything from her wedding - I fear a bad vibe from them (silly I know). I already got my own veil. My mom said not to insult her, and to take what is she offering, to use the bag. But I dont know what to say as an excuse why I am not using her veil. what do u guys think I should say? How to excuse myself?

i don't blame you... i am weird about bad vibes like that too! why don't you just tell her you already got your veil?

I can't cause she offered when I just got engaged and got my dress, and been talking about giving it to me ever since. she is so excited to do that for me. I just dont want to hurt her feelings.

Re: what to say?
Does it match your dress? Is the one you got a different style? Like can you say you wanted a particular length that is different from hers?

Re: what to say?
I would tell her that although I really appreciate the gesture, I have my heart set on another one. I love the way it compliments my dress and I hope you understand. She was a bride and excited to get everything new as well... she should understand. As for the bag.... say you are going to use a card box instead...or something else?

Re: what to say?
can you maybe fib a little and say that someone in your fam bought you a veil as a special gift?
Or can you say that you think the veil that you bought just goes better with your dress, but that you'll use the bag?

Re: what to say?
ye I was thinking of saying that either the veil doesnt match or that my mom got me one. My mom thinks I should take it and then tell her that it doesnt match - simplest. the bag/purse I actually dont care to use of not. my cousin used it for her wedding, so its not as important or BRIDAL as the veil that will be w/me at the huppah. Plus FH doesnt want me using it as well.
thanks guys. I think I am just going to say it doesnt match. Just dont want her to feel bad.

Just tell her you already got your veil... it was nice of her to offer but it's something you already picked out. I don't think that will hurt her feelings. It's not like you knew she was going to offer it to you.

Tell her it was soo nice and sweet of her to offer , but you already got a veil. I don't think she will take offense.

I agree with everyone else - either say it doesn't match or tell her that as a surprise, your mom (or another close family member) got you this veil you had your heart set on a long time ago but was too expensive so you didn't get it.. I mean I'm sure if you explain, she won't get offended.. To be honest, I'd feel a little superstitious as well..

I definitely wouldn't use it either!! I'm extremely superstitious...I would just tell her that the veil that they showed you in the store goes exactly with your dress and you rather buy the matching one. I don't really think that theres much to get offended about.

Just tell her you have everything you need or that you are borrowing from someone else already!

funny. I said just that when she just mentioned giving it to me months ago. to which she said, that I shouldnt be silly b/c w/all the spending I should save money wherever I can. I didnt know what to say cause this was the 1st time she was truly excited about something since what happened to her

Re: what to say?
Just politely decline. Tell her you're already set with everything but you defintly appreciate the offer and if anything changes you'll let her know. I'm sure she'll understand.
