What type of dress do you wear to a wedding....

...in August on a beach with part of the cocktail and reception outside and the ceremony outside that starts at 11am?

first of all, a 'black tie optional' 11am wedding is an oxymoron! how nuts is that?!? anyway, i would probably wear a nice sundress but in a solid color and ankle length. good luck!

Hmmm...black tie optional and beach wedding is an unusual combination. Maybe a 'fancier' summer dress with strappy sandals and accessories. Laundry has some pretty dresses that would be perfect.

If it's on the beach and that early, definetly agree, something summery, sundress.

I actually am not sure whether I should get a dress down to my ankles or just past my knees.

I don't think it matters to much. below knees or ankles.

I wouldn't wear a long dress. I'd wear something fancier than a regular summer dress but around the knee area.

My FSIL got married in Bermuda, so it was a similar situation - beachy yet fancy. I wore a silk sundress that fell to just below my knee. It was a soft pattern with different shades of light blue. It was perfect!
