My aunt secretly flew in from chicago for the party and no one told me about it.. i knew about the shower and i was practicing how to look surprised, but when i walked in and saw her i almost fainted!!! shes one of my best friends and my aunt so that was the best gift just having her there with me!!!

Oh my God!! Your Aunt traveled all that way! I probably would have fainted too. I still haven't had my shower yet I can't wait..the anticipation is killing me!!!

The best gift I received was the marriage license scroll holder (silver) from Fortunoff.

ooh i like this question! i just had my shower yesterday and got some really wonderful gifts. some of the gifts that really stood out as different included: personalized stationery with my married name on it, and a framed watercolor of the carlyle (my wedding location). but i really loved everything i got.... it was such a great day!

I loved the towel wedding cake my cousin made me it was beautiful, i never want to take it apart!

I just heard a cute idea. The MOH sent out the invite with a blank card that said their name at the top 'Joan's Recipe' for example. And everybody sent back the card and the MOH made a recipoe box. Sweet. And so easy.

I also got a marriage lisence scroll holder. It is a silver lennox holder. It is beautiful.

A framed watercolor painted by my Aunt. I love it.

My FI flew in his sister, my FSIL, and her two children (2 and 5) who I was deeply attached to. They moved to Florida in November and it was really difficult for us not to see them often. I carried them around the whole time. I was so excited and happy to see them.

Apparently it was really hard for the 5 year old to keep the secret . I was wondering why everytime I called before my shower I was unable to speak to him.

I knew that when I went to PA (I live in Florida but I'm originally from PA so that is where all my bridal party and most of my friends live) that I would be having my shower but I was SO shocked to see my Grandmother, 3 aunts, 2 cousins and my cousins baby girl all there! They had made the long drive from LI. And then as I am hugging them all I see my MOM in the back. She flew in from FL the day after me. That was the BEST!!

But some other great stuff I got was a recipe book that everyone had contributed to (I'm not a very good cook so the notes that went along with them were pretty funny) and a handkerchief that my MOH hand stitched with My & FH names and wedding date.

One of my creative bridesmaids brought an unglazed piece of pottery which she had everyone sign then she went back home and traced over the signatures with a grease pen and she glazed it, creating a vase with everyone's signatures.

My mother put together a friends and family cookbook using a photo album in which she put favorite recipes from friends and family accompanied by photos of the people that gave her the recipes.

One of hubby's great aunts gave me a money tree that was twisted wire with bills of various denominations tied to it with bright colored ribbons - it looked great!

I also got several other nice items for entertaining that were not on my registry, but very much to my taste and liking, which was wonderful.

I have a few to share:

a cook book with all receipes from shower guests - my BM sent out the invites with nice note paper for everyone to write their own receipes on.

a pillow that my mom made from material of her own wedding gown - included flowers from her dress, with our names and date on it - it was beautiful!

My sister had t-shirts made for each of us with our pictures from her own wedding - and above with the caption 'just married' with the name and date on the back!

My favorite is the Beadspread my FMIL is made for us. It is beautiful and I can't believe how much I love it!!! I also really like the wedding cake my mom made out of towels.

My FH's aunt made us an afghan. It's beautiful. We also received the Kitchen Aide stand mixer - a great gift that I never registered for!

I got an incredible gift from my FMIL. She gave me a necklace with a diamond pendant. It is so beautiful and I will be wearing my wedding day. It sure was a surprise!!

I think the most unique gift I got was from one of my Bridesmaids who put together all sorts of baking things ( cooling racks, pans ect.) but included assorted holiday cookie cutters, all in a big box!!
A friend from work packed up a beach bag with an underwater camera, 2 large beach towels, sunblock, flip flops, lipbalm...,.. all sorts of fun stuff!! It was so great to just through that in with the honeymoon stuff & not have to think about buying those things!!
