I'm not married yet, but I think most DIY's are unnecessary. BUT, I also think they are a nice touch that can really personalize your wedding.

if i have to be really honest, i'd say my DOC. dont get me wrong i loved her to pieces and she did a great job....but i was such a neurotic bride that i had EVERYTHING fully covered for the night and there was really nothing for her to do.

The cigar roller. I surprised DH with it. While he loved it (and so did my guests) it was an expense that wasn't necessary. Also my programs were totally unnecessary.

Honestly - the only thing that I NEEDED at my wedding was me and FH and someone to marry us. I probably would have been perfectly happy with that - and saved myself a boatload of $$..
I did - however - get programs and petal cones and menus and a lot of little things. All of which added cost to the bottomline.
BUT... honestly? Each and every one of those little touches made my wedding. It was all the little things that people noticed and commented on and were so grateful for. I am 100% happy that I did 'waste' my money!

I COMPLETELY AGREE!!! I added up the little things and spent so much money on them...but everyone noticed and appreciated it! It made my wedding unique and had everyone remembering it!
The best money I spent was on candle votives. Got them on sale at Ac moore...total cost was about 40 dollars and they lit up the whole room. I started to cry when I walked in before everyone else to see the room! It looked amazing!

honestly, I wouldn't change a thing. I didn't do any DIY's because I think they are nice, but only a handful of folks will notice them.
Probably my OOT'er bottles of wine. I was quite surprised, nobody even said thank you for them.
