What will be the 2000's version of shoulder pads & excessive lace?
Original post by melbalalala
we all enjoy poking fun of wedding dresses from the 80s that had huge shoulder pads and tons of lace and big fluffiness. But I assume back in the day the girls thought that was normal and lovely.
I feel like all of the current dresses are so timeless and simple.
Im worried though, that 20 years from now I will be laughing at whatever dress I choose.
I like the dresses with a hint of color but will I be horrified by that in 20 years? Are the big tulle skirts our downfall? the bunchedup/pull skirts?
What do you girls think are the newest trends that our daughters will be laughing at in the future?
ETA: OK definitely regretting starting this thread. I don't want to start drama since everyone's tastes differ. Abort mission!!! Abort mission!! I'll just get some shoulder pads and a big 'ol white hat for my wedding!

ALL styles eventually come back around and repeat themselves.

I love looking at older wedding albums. I really think dresses now look very elegant and timeless, but I think every era of brides will have one thing our kids make fun of ie. Hair make-up...
it's all a matter of time!!

In my opinion.. I think the pickups are HOT!!! I think those will be even hotter years from now!! I think it's the beginning of a new style and I LOVE IT!!!! and as far as the tea length BM dresses.. I am not doing it personally but whoever is.. I love them and you shouldn't be affraid to do it!! Hey it's 2006!!! Do u know how many different styles they are?? Why be the same as everyone else! If it's your style go for it!!
I agree! But reading everyone's reaction has made me nervous about my dress choice!!!

I agree, my mom also loves the pickups, they are sexy, and elegant at the same time.

Hopefully our daughters will look back and say: 'wow, Mom, you spent so much money on your wedding- that was so 2000s...I don't want you to pay that much $$ for my wedding!'
hehehe

I like this dress, it has the pickups look, but also still has a train.

THanks for posting a picture, all through the thread I kept thinking to myself, what the heck is a pick up.
I like pick ups...
I hope that by the time I have a daughter getting married it will either be similar styles to now or cycle back to the dresses of our parents era and hopefully skip over the shoulder pads.

this is a funny thing...i think about that everytime I try on a dress....i love the pick ups and debate on whether it will look funny 10 years from now.....you raise an interesting question though....so thats why I am torn between a traditional or more trendy one

corset backs?
That wedding cake look that dresses seem to have with the extra folds and bustles?

I am all about the pick ups.. I think they are stylish and different and don't require a bustle that will make your @$$ look like a big bubble but when done up.. and I also like tea length dresses, but personally aren't using them bc I am having an evening wedding and think that a full length dress is more appropriate..
but like my mom always taught me.. 'Opinions are like @$$holes, EVERYONE'S got one'!!!!
Best mom ever!
Dont forget the rest of it - '... and some of them stink!!!'

Let's not get it all twisted.....
I was debating on my gown last year, and I tried on a gown with pickups and fell in love with it because it was different from everything I had seen before it. Now pickup gowns are EVERYWHERE and it seems like every bride is wearing one. Almost makes you wonder where the originality is. Don't get me wrong, I love the look and was that close to buying that gown, but it is very much a trend.
The only reason I didn't buy the gown was because I could hear my mother in my head saying how the skirt looked like curtains to her.....
