What would U do??

What would U do??

I was wondering what you guys think. We are in the process of choosing between two catering halls. One is in Long Island and one is in Staten Island? Would you choose the one that's closer to your home?

i would chose one that was closer and more convenient for me when getting ready the morning of the wedding....

I would choose the one that is closest to your ceremony site first. If you are getting married at the hall and all things are equal then I agree with Lori

I am getting married at my Church which is in Brooklyn... The place in Staten Island is about 45 minutes away and the place in Long Island is about 1 1/2 hours away. It's a really hard choice.. I like both places..

1 1/2 hours away is a lot to ask guest to go who want to go to the church. I think you should choose the one that is 45 minutes away

Okay, BUT should I really think of it that way? Or should I think of it as doing what I want since it's my day. I keep going back and forth with this with FI. There are so many reasons to do it closer but there are so many reasons to do it out in LI. I wouldn't expect all the people that need to travel to LI to come to the Church anyway. I know my closest friends would be there no matter what. I am so confused... sorry..

In my opinion, 'your day' means that you get to be the one to make the final decision taking all of the different concerns into account. To me, 'your day' doesn't mean that you get to ignore the needs of everyone else. I'm not saying this to tell you which of the locations is right (both could be right!), but just to make sure that you don't use your wedding as an excuse to be inconsiderate and think only of yourself.

I would go witht the one nearest to my home and cermony site.
Is there anyway you can change your church to be out on long island if that's the one you love?

I too, would go with the one that is closer to the Cermony site.

Def.. Pick the SI hall..

otherwise how I feel.
Most guests won't be willing to come to church and hall if there is such a long trip..

Where in SI.. They have nice halls there!

I would choose by what is closer to me and most of my guests. People don't like to travel far or wont stay long if they know they have to travel far at the end of the night.

We live in Suffolk and were deciding between a site in Nassau and one in Suffolk the decison all came down to travel time which would be taking away from our picture taking time. We went with the one closer to home.

We looked at halls that would be convenient for our guests to go to.

Thanks.. I understand what you are trying to say Valenia. Also, as for price difference. The Long Island Hall is $10 cheaper than the SI hall BUT they want a minumum of 150 people (which my list right now is about 185). The SI hall is a little more expensive but the minimum is 125 people. Thanks to everyone who gave their honest opinions - I appreciate it and will have to give this some more thought.

id go with the SI place. i know personally we probably skip the church if it was so far away from the hall.

Where are your guests coming from? If too far, are there any hotels near either hall for them to stay at?

Something else to consider: Where/When are you taking your pictures? How much time between the ceremony and reception? What about traffic?

Re: What would U do??

Nora,

I have guests coming from everywhere. Brooklyn, Staten Island, New Jersey and Long Island (even some out of state people as well). Both places have hotels nearby although I think that the place in LI has hotels closer to it.

I haven't gotten that far yet with where we are doing picture taking (depending on the hall). The Church starts at 3:30 and we would probably get on the road by 5:00 the latest. It's 1 1/2 hrs travel time with traffic so that would get us out to LI by 6:30 and our reception would start at 7:30. To get to SI, it would take us 45 minutes with traffic and we can start the cocktail hour anytime we want since it's only 1 wedding at a time which is good in a way...

just as a side note - keep in mind travel time for you too - we didn't and have to pay mucho $$$$ for limo's, photographers, etc.....

its worth it but we sometimes wish we had thought about it at the time!
