What would you do?

What would you do?

I need honest opinions. A few weeks ago my ex from years ago called to see how I was doing. He has been calling periodically for the past three years since we broke up. We have always remain friendly and filled in with whats been going on in each others life. Well when he called me the few weeks ago I told him that I was engage. He said congratualtions but cut the conversation short. Last night I got an email from him again congratulating me and wanted to know if we can meet up for lunch on Friday. We have only seen each other once after we broke up and I'm not sure if this is something that is appropriate. Please let me know what you guys think? Thanks.

Update: I declined ex's invitation, and told him he can communicate like before, but no meetings can take place.

I would talk to your FH about this. I would not like if my FH went out with his EX so I cant imagine him being happy with the idea of me going out with my EX. I dont think it is a good idea. (JMO)
Good Luck!

Don't do it IMO

I have been there and I am still going through a similar situation with my Ex. It is one thing to keep in touch via e-mail, but once you start meeting in person face to face, it is a whole other level.
I mean are you both 'friends' or just once in a blue moon shoot each other a 'Hey, how are you'?

I say don't

honestly, I wouldn't go. Ofcourse thats just me but if it is somethung that would bother ur FH and it would be something you woud be doing without telling him I def woudnt risk it!!..If ur FH is cool with it then its up to u. I guess i just figure that there has to be a reason that all of a sudden after so longof not seeing you he wants to 'do lunch'

I personally would not go...something just seems a little fishy, after you have not seen him and now that he finds out your engaged he wants to see you and he emailed it to you instead of telling you when you talked on the phone. It could be innocent but i just wouldnt go..

If you feel uncomfortable about it I wouldn't go. I would be open and honest with FH about it. It seems like he just wants to see you b/c he heard you're engaged so I don't know if this is a good idea.

I agree with this. And I'm sure he wouldn't be happy about it, although I don't know your FI. It definately can't be a comfy situation to bring up, when he has NO idea about it. I say keep your distance, and your friendliness at more of an aquaintance level. Getting too friendly may send him mixed messages, and hope maybe blooming on his( your Ex's) part. Be cautious, and consider the feelings of your fiance!!

IMO- I wouldn't do it. I have been in a similar situation and I figured I would be better off not putting myself in a potentially uncomfortable, even damaging situation. It's ok to have communication with him from time to time but I don't think it's a good idea to see him. Don't you find it interesting that you have only seen him once in 3 years and now that your engaged he invites you to lunch??

Re: What would you do?

Well I just asked my FH what he thought ( i forwarded the email to him) and he believes that he is trying a last ditch effort to get back with me, however he saids its up to me if i want to go or not.
However, based on the comments I think I will declined, if FH is right, I would feel stupid and frankly its not worth the headach. Thanks for all of your input.

I wouldn't go ... and just respond to him that I dont think its a good idea. Also, see how Fh feels - and base that on your decision

I definitely say don't go. Like your fh husband said that it is probably a last ditch effort to get you back, and if you do go it would almost be a slap in the face to your fh husband.

Dont do it.. you would only be heading for disaster and you don't want that guilt hanging over your shoulders.. JMO

hmmm this is a tough one!

FH is very good - to be honest about it but also open to what you want to do...

Maybe say this time is too busy, but you are interested in hearing how he is doing via email?

?I wouldn't do it. Dont even bring it up with yoru FH you dont want to start and unnecessary
fight... I would just cut off all ties with the EX unless you want to stay friends.. Then Bring it up
to your FH and see how he feels about it.
