What would you do??

FI and I decided early in our wedding planning stages we weren't buying each other wedding presents since we are paying for the wedding ourselves, blah, blah, blah. So a year later...I bring it up again to ensure we weren't getting each other gifts and he acted funny. We left it as no maybe after the wedding we can buy ourselves something nice. I knew he was up to something. I also think I know what the something is and if it is that it is beautiful.

Came home from work and there was a message from the jeweler where he bought my engagement ring saying the bracelet he bought is ready (what I thought!!)! Do I tell him about the message or play stupid? Now do I go get him a gift? I have a week left.

What would you do?

Re: What would you do??

I'd get him a gift and not tell him you know about the bracelet. He's obviously trying to surprise you with it, let him have his fun.

Re: What would you do??

I would play stupid and act like I didn't know, since my DH loves when I am surprised. Knowing me I would of got him a present even if he told me not to, nothing big but just something special.

Re: What would you do??

Personally, I would play stupid and not tell him I heard the message. Then I would rack my brain for the perfect gift for him!!!

My FH and I also said no gifts - but I am secretly having his wedding ring engraved - something small - but hopefully meaningful to him.

Good Luck!

Re: What would you do??

I wouldn't tell!! And I would definitely get him something...maybe if he's into sports, you can get him 2 tickets to a game or something like that? Or tickets to a show? You can write something like 'Just because the wedding is over, doesn't mean the honeymoon has to end...'

Good luck!

Re: What would you do??

Thanks guys..I was planing on getting him something big but the few things I wanted to get him..I really need him to pick out...so I decided against it. I am definitely planning on getting him a little something but now I feel bad because he got me something big.

I just really fell bad that the stupid jewelers ruined it for him! I am still gonna love the gift but I know he wanted me to be 100% surprised.

I am jsut gonna feel bad if he is waiting for that call or if the jeweler tells him he left a message at his home!

Re: What would you do??

first off play stupid, don't ruin his surprise.
second don't feel bad.
we are paying for the wedding ourselves too, and its not easy with rent & cars etc., however, get something from your heart. thats what really matters.

Re: What would you do??

My FI and I had the same agreement before our wedding. I thought he had broken it up untill the day of. (turns out I was wrong anyway)
My advise is to play stupid, and don't go out and get a gift. I was feeling funny aboout him giving me a gift and me not having one also.
Just accept his gift. He bought it for you because he loves you, not because he expects one from you in return.
Just be gracious and say thank you. You can always get him something later or on your honeymoon.

Re: What would you do??

don't tell him. he has probably been planning this for some time and it might hurt his feelings if you tell him.

Re: What would you do??

debbus- you answer was the same as my mom's! And they say mom is always right!

FI and I did say something about buying each other a joint gift after the wedding so I really can wait until then if I wanted to. I really wanted to buy him a big screen tv but I would need his help to pick it out! Whenever we go to my parents he says he wants to steal theirs! Maybe I will get him something small like I planned and wait on the big gift and be surprised when I get my bracelet. I am mad that his surprise was ruined...by that woman (I can't stand that woman too..annoying sales person).
