What would you do????

What would you do????

My friend asked me a while ago to be in her wedding. I was very excited for her and received her save the date for April'09. I am getting married Oct'08. Now I get a phone call saying that she has changed her date to 4 Weeks before my wedding. I have now told her that I can not go to her wedding because first of all I bought tickets for my fiance to see a show at radio city and its on the same day. Its a surprise gift for his birthday and second financially and socially I am going to be busy with the rest of the planning for my wedding. She thinks I should cancel my tickets that I got my fiance and be happy and do for her. She changed the date with out even giving anyone in her wedding party including myself the common courtesy to say that she was changing the date. How would you guys feel??

hmmmm this is just my opinion but I think she is wrong! I could be wrong here but I would think she would check with people first..esp knowing that your wedding is coming up. If she didnt have the courtesy to check with you first then you shouldnt feel obligated to change your plans...she should be understanding since shes the on who changed things.

I would be upset too! Is this person a good friend of yours? If she is a good friend you might regret not going in the future.

BUT I think she is wrong for changing stuff and not consulting the people in her bridal party. I guess she can do what she wants but October is not that far away and people do make plans in advance.

aww that's a tough one! i think she was definitely wrong for not consulting everyone first - or at least giving a heads' up. but still, if this is some that you're close to it's tough to say you won't be going because it's one of the most important days of her life! if it were someone i were close with i'd tell her i'm a little upset that she didn't ask anyone or mention it to anyone but i'd rearrange my plans to be in her wedding

i understand it does stink that she changed her date. although i would try to reschedule the show. it seems like she really wants you at her wedding. is it possible to reschedule?

I think that although she is wrong for changing the wedding date w.out any notice, it is her wedding day. How would you feel if your BM refused to cancel tickets to a show instead of showing up for your wedding?
I think that being her BM will be extremely overwhelming and dont think you will have time to to do it...not to mention the $$$. If it were me, I would cancel the tickets and go to her wedding...BUT I would not be in the bridal party.

I have no intentions of being in her bridal party now. I did say that I would try and make the wedding but I am truly angry and hurt and I am intitled for how I feel. thanks for your thoughts.

Wow, I'd be pissed. Sorry this happened to you! Just do what you want. People seem to be doing what they want so you should do the same!

wow - that wasn't so nice to spring the change of date on you and expect you to re-arrange everything. But if she is your good friend, I would try to be there for her wedding.

She should have let you know about the date change...but you need to do what is right for you...just think is it worth losing a friend over though?

First she sends out save the dates and then changes the date without telling the bridal party? Wow. I know she's the bride but she can't always think of herself. That was wrong to not inform you. But like someone else mentioned, you might regret not going.

I'd be very upset. I think shes wrong. She can't expect you to drop everything because she decided to change her date

I would be really angry and would not be in her wedding party. She knew your wedding date before changing hers and you are going to be too busy with your own stuff to really be into her wedding. I think I would go to the wedding though and change my tickets. But if you don't you have every right not to!

It is perfectly fine for her to change the date (for all we know, she had a good reason, like a sick family member)... but she should understand that people may no longer be available and she just has to deal with that!

i woud be upset why should you change your plans and sell the tix just because she changed her mind!...i would be pissed off if someone would do that.....
i dont think that you should sell the tix ...do what you had to....and maybe you can explain how important it is for you..and how expensive it is going to be...!

I think that's wrong and I would be really upset if I were you..but if I were you, i'd tell her how I feel and ultimately be willing to postpone my plans to attend and even be in her wedding...a wedding is a big deal, I would really try not to miss it because of something like this....

I think she is absolutely wrong! I can't believe she wouldn't even check with her BP before changing her date! That is absurd! In addition, I would not change your plans. She needs to understand that not everyone is going to jump to reorganize their life when she is the one that changed the date with no notification. It's JMO but I would stick with your original plans!

I agree.... I would be upset as well, wait until I cooled off, and then talk to her. However, if this is a very close friend I wouldn't miss her wedding and I would still be in her bridal party.
