What would you do?

What would you do?

Ok, so tricky situation. I'm going to be cryptic, so please, use your imaginations.

I have been trying to contact a vendor for the past 2 weeks to set up a trial appointment. My friend's wedding is next Saturday, so I really wanted to try to get a trial for that morning so I'd at least have an event to wear it to. So I contacted end of January.

Over a week passed, and I did not hear back. So I sent a follow up email on Monday, just saying I wanted to make sure that they received my original email.

A few more days passed, and still no word, so I decided eff it yesterday, and made an appointment at Cactus. Either way, I needed to have my hair done, and I wasn't going to stand on one foot anymore.

So naturally, I get a response today. Just sorry for the delay, nothing more. But there were a whole bunch of attachments in the email, such as contracts, referrals, price lists, info, explanation of services, etc.

So what really rubbed me the wrong way about it was that in these attachments, it kept reiterating that I must call within 2 weeks to discuss a trial. So I was kind of like why do I HAVE to get back to you in 2 weeks when you didn't give me the same courtesy? And also, the contract needs to be signed johnny on the spot in order to use the trial as a deposit, and I don't like to make decisions on the spot.

So my mother's opinion is that it's flaky behavior and I shouldn't have to deal with that on my wedding. I'm a little perturbed at the way it was handled, I like a little more customer service than that.

BUT at the same time, I like the vendors work, and I don't want to cut my nose off to spite my face by going with a possibly inferior source because I got my panties in a bunch.

So what would you do? Try to schedule a trial for next Sat, or forget it and move on and look for someone more accommodating?

If I really liked them, then I would try them but if I felt sketchy about them at all...I would forget about it.

hmmm thats tough. Is it a popular vendor who you know is just super popular and thats what caused the delay but you know they have a lot of positive reviews? If so I would say maybe it was a bad week and go for the trial but if you aren't sure I'd say forget it.

The thing is, from what I've gathered, this vendor isn't super super popular...people use them and those that do absolutely rave, but a lot do not, and I don't know if it's because they're pricey, geographically not conveniently located for the majority, still a hidden gem, or all of the above.

So it's not that they're very busy...but I have been told very notoriously bad at communication and hard to contact, so that does concern me a great deal. So I don't know. Ugh, if I had gorgeous hair this wouldn't be an issue, but I have a rat trap so I need someone talented otherwise I'm going to look like a hag.

Personally, if someone's professional demeanor displeases me, it's a deal breaker. So it would be a no-go for me. As much as their work might be spectacular, there can be someone else around just as great or moreso that will not keep you in the lurch. But, I'm a stubborn bit$h so maybe I'm not the best to give advice

If they are unreliable this early in the game, I would be very worried about their day-of reliability ... but that is just me. We had a similar situation with a vendor, and after we made an appt and they were 45 minutes late (and took a couple who arrived after us in before us), we decided they didn't deserve our business and that we couldn't trust them to honor anything ... so I would go with your gut on this one. No matter how nice a vendor's work is, if you can't rely on and trust them, I wouldn't work with them.

Honestly if I really wanted to use the vendor, I would express my concerns with her. Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your lives and you should not have to worry. I was in a similar situation where I really liked a vendor but she had been really flaky with communication so I was hesitant to sign a contract. Once I spoke to her about it and cleared things up, the communication was 100% better from that point on.

Oh, and you do not have a rat trap, lol.

If it's a popular vendor who does beautiful work, I would give her a shot.

i think i know who you are talking about....i would not give her a shot...although her work may be great (and ive seen it...it is) she isnt the only stylist on LI and you can find at least 100 more who do nice hair...go to your cactus appt. you may be surprised

if you schedule a trail are you forced to go with them?

IMHO, I hate that they took so long to get back to you and then state in the their own contract about the 2 weeks thing... Its not high wedding season, so I doubt they were THAT busy as to not check their email. This would worry me for the DOW if something were to go wrong and I couldnt get in touch with them... I woudl freak out .. I have to agree with your mom, they sound flaky and I just wouldnt risk it... You will have enough stress that day without worrying about your vendors not showing up

that stuff bothers me, and I don't think you should have to worry THAT much about a vendor. They are supossed to do all the work, you are hiring them. Personally, I would not work with them b/c I'd be too worried about things going wrong or them not being 100% committed to making you happy, both before the big day and on the big day.

Similar Situation: I had some hair vendor in mind prior to the one I chose and the fact that she never responded to me for weeks and then e-mailed me like it was no big deal to then say that my trial was too far in advance to be booked with her, I said NO THANKS i'm not waiting around

Go with your gut if you feel sketchy about the situation now so early on don't even bother with the trial. If you really her work then go for the trial. But just remember it is so early on what if you have communication issues with this vendor closer to your wedding?

ITA. The last thing we need to worry about on our wedding day is if the vendors are going leave us hanging in some way or another.
