Fh's family has a DJ that they have known since grade school (I actually went to grade school with DJ's brother). He does all the parties and we love him. Always does a great job, comes early, etc.
So, when we told his family we set the date, they immediately gave us the DJ's number.
My question is.....turns out that for 4 hrs of music and a few giveaways, he is like $600 more than other DJ's prices I've seen!! This puts us overbudget for DJ.
Would you go with the family friend who you know? or save the money and choose someone else? AND then have to tell the future in-laws DJ too expensive.
Please, any advice would be appeciated!
Thanks...sry so long.

Re: What would you do?
You mean to tell me he's not willing to give you a break? Or throw in some extras?
I have a few family friends that I'm using as vendors, one of them being Proline Studios (photo), and they are definitely doing right by us. I would see what they could do for you.

I think it's something that FH needs to talk about w/his family. That's a big difference in price.
Question. If this family friend isn't DJ'ing is he close enough that he would be invited to the wedding? If he is, you could always say that you wanted him as a guest and not work the wedding and that is the reason you hired another DJ.

Would not be invited if not DJ'ing. That is his 'break' price. I was shocked when I heard it. But I don't want to hurt feelings. There are 2 more family parties in the coming years that they would need him for.

IMHO- I would be honest and tell him you'd love to have him as your DJ, but you can't stray from your budget...

tell them hes very expensive. thats all. worry about your pocket. ... if they want him so bad, have them pay for it.. but 600$ more thant he average dj is absurd

Are you able to talk to him about price? If so than maybe he will work with you. If not it depends on if this is something you want and can to spend the money.

Re: What would you do?
I would def stick with budget I mean everyone is willing to neg prices today and esp if it were a family friend and knowing you will be using them again, I would try talking to fh family maybe they can get him to lower the price

no offense, but if your fiances family has used him in the past, and hes not willing to come down in price then hes a reall AZZ!!! any1 who isnt willing to come down in price, especially after the family has given him business is a realll POS and i wouldnt go with him.

I agree - I think $600 is a lot more for you to pay and if he can't come down $600 for your wedding, then you would just tell him nicely that you can't afford it.

Re: What would you do?
This was our exact situation with our DJ. FH's family has used him a number of times and we knew we wanted to book him but his prices were more than some quotes I've gotten on LIW. But we chose to go with him anyway; he did give us a break though. Not a big one but he gave us a deal.
We went over our budget for the DJ also but that is because FH wanted some things that added up at the end.

Re: What would you do?
I chose to go with a DJ company that my MOH's brother works for. They are a little more than other DJ's but we chose him for several reasons
1) they offered amazing live elements that will really add alot to our wedding
2) I love their style and vibe
3) knowing my Moh's brother will be djing gives me peace of mine. He like a little brother to me and I know he will do right by us.

Re: What would you do?
honestly i would do what my pocket tells me too, lol. cause I had a similar problem.. but it wasnt a family friend.. We loooved this one dj company that my friend used.. We were totally goin to book with them until we went to the dj company my bro used and they were willing to give us the same overall package for 1000.00 cheaper.. I mean I know they are both awesome. and i wanted to use someone other than the people my bro used. but how the heck can i turn down a deal that is 1000 cheaper. I couldnt.. so we spoke to the other company and they couldnt do any better.. I went with the other dj although i really wanted the more expensive one. I just couldnt see myself spending more money . it was a huge difference!! i say go with the budget!:)

I would tell FH's family that you can't afford them, maybe he'll give you a break then. If not, don't use him. Find someone in your budget.
