I would think she lost her mind b/c my mom is super conservative about clothing and her dress to my wedding.. I told her she kept picking out too many 'grandma' dresses for herself!
If your Mom has the body to wear that then good for her! I don't think it would bother me unless it was in white. Sorry

Is it that color, lol? If it is, that is the same color my FMIL plans to wear. What can you do, I'm not about to go crazy over colors. Just know that everyone there will know who the bride is, so don't worry.

it's both... she's very short and i dont think she can pull off the style. plus my dress is very simple (satin trumpet) and she will completely overwhelm it standing next to me and walking me down the aisle. it's an attention piece and i'm not sure why she feels the need to draw attention to herself on my wedding. also, i think it could pass for a stylish wedding dress itself.

Re: what would you do
I definitely don't think it looks like a wedding dress... but on a mother of the bride, I think it's just going to look like she wanted some serious attention.
Most people aren't even going to notice that there's anything strange about it at all.
I don't love the idea of your mom putting you in the position where you feel like she's trying to steal thunder from your day, but she probably really just wanted to look special in your honor, not to overshadow you. She just wants to feel like a proud mama and try to dress up and look the part...
I, personally, would feel ridiculous in that dress (and neither my mom, nor my step mom who could potentially pull that dress off would ever, ever wear it)...
When will she get it? Hopefully you can see her in it before your wedding day a few times and get used to it.

Re: what would you do
I would calmly discuss it with her...she didn't mean to upset you! I am not one to care about the color being too light...I feel like no matter what, nobody will steal the attention for you.
However, if she doesn't have a perfect body and is short, it might not be the best fit for her. Can she change her order? Can you go with her this time? My mom didn't bring me to pick out her dress (I gave her h*ll for that) BUT she got an custom-made dress that will be extremely flattering on her 4'11' figure. Can you talk to her and work it out?
