What would you do?- a bit long- but please share your opinion

My e-pics were thrown in to my photo package. I assumed we would be able to take them wherever, and got FH to be into the whole thing by telling him that we'll do them in the city (Central Park and whatever).

Anyway, I emailed the photographer and asked if he had any suggestions as to where to take them, and mentioned that my FH wanted to take them in the city. I said 'Is there a place you usually do them, do you have any suggestions?'

He answered that they take them on the water in Massapequa and if I want to take them somewhere else its $300.

Now, my issue is that my RH is on the water in Massapequa, right down the road from the photographers office. Many of my wedding pictures will be taken on the water in Massapequa.

I hate the thought of spending $300 on something like this...but are all my pics going to look the same? Should I suck it up and pay $300? Or pay $400 for OWG on my wedding day (another thing I am 100% against...)?

What should I do?!?!

Does your contract say anything specific about having to pay the money for your epics if they're taken at a different location besides Massapequa? If it doesn't then I would bring that up to your photographer!

All it says is 'engagement shoot.' I had asked when I booked how much they charge for e-pics and he said 'I'll throw them in.' And I said 'Awesome thanks!' He told me to contact him when it gets warmer to schedule. We never discussed the specifics, nor does it say anything about epics in the promotional information folder thing

Honestly the engagement shoot is not really a biggie i think. I got mine done in a studio and they look like everyone elses pics from the same studio and i only used them for the std. Your not going ot use these pics except for a std, photo at the wedding and maybe one hanging around until your wedding photo's come in. SO for me $300 extra is a no go, i wouldn't do it but its really up to what you want.

I would fight it first. That's what a contracts for! If I ended up losing the fight, I'd probably suck it up and pay the $300. I love epics and I think an environment totally different from your wedding day pics is important. JMO.

I think you should ask your photographer why it's not stated in your contract that you'd have to pay for them at another location!
FH and I are really looking forward to our epics, since we' ve been dating for 3 years and we don't really have that many pics of us. I'd be furious if I couldn't take them where I wanted to!!

I totally agree...for us, the epics weren't a necessity, but were something we wanted to have for things like our stds, wedding announcement, and photocube. Since they weren't really a big deal to us we just went with hobby photographer for $100. So for me, $300 just to change locations is kind of crazy.

I agree (IF YOURE SET ON GETTING THEM!).

We're not bc theyre not included in package and will be 300 extra w/ our photog and we just would rather put the 300 towards something wedding related. we know we'll get all the pics we want on our wedding day.

Actually, the contract does NOT state that the engagement shoot is at the massapequa water front area only and if another location it's $300, so that's their bad for not including in the contract.

You have every right to take them wherever you want - they didn't note that on the contract so that's their problem. They said they'd throw it in, put that in your contract, so they have to honor it.

I'd let them know this and tell them that you do not want to take your pictures at the same area you'll be taking your wedding pictures at, and that you want to take them in the city and will not pay an additional fee because your contract STATES that the engagement shoot is included and does not limit the location.

FH and I went out to LI to interview photgraphers and the ones that did throw in Epics did all mention that epics taken in places other than their studio was a charge we asked if they would take them at Central Park or somewhere in the city where we're familiar with (we don't know the island at all) and they all said they'd charge us a 'site fee' *****, but they did tell us up front...
