what would you do as far as giving a gift

what would you do as far as giving a gift

I was just talking to one of my friends and she was telling me that she was invited to an engagement party but can't go bc she has a family party the same day. The thing is that the couple engaged came to her engagement party and brought them a gift (gave them money), she's not sure if she should give them the same amount of money or less since she isnt going???

I told her it's really up to her but I was curious what would be the right thing to do.

ps. this is just a friend of hers, not really close or anything but still friends

honestly
i feel a e party is just a party.... if you were invited to a birthday party and couldn't go would you still send a gift if you aren't really close?

It would be appropriate to send a gift of equal value to what she received. It doesn't matter that she can't go to the e-party.

Maybe buy a gift such as toasting flutes.

I think if they attended her party, she should reciprocate with a gift. Me and FH were a little upset because his cousin had a really big party which we went to, and everyone gave gifts, but then since ours was very small, just immediate family in his home, we weren't sent gifts from that side of the family, even though they knew we were engaged. It hurt a bit, so I would say for equity's sake and all....

That's what I told her but then said it's really up to what she feels is the right thing to do. I would give the same gift given to me.
