What would you recommend?

What would you recommend?

We will be looking for apartments soon. Should we look into complexes, or apartments in people's homes?

My my personal experiences I would say a complex. I had manyyyyyyyy bad experiences with house apartments, but i think i just had a string of bad luck lol. Complexes in my opinion are more private but house apartments are alot cheaper. So its really what your preference is : ) Good luck!!!

I would say a complex too. I had a horrible experience with a landlord of a private apartment once (let's just say it was so bad that we had to move out within 3 weeks ) Even though complexes tend to be more expensive, I think it is worth it.

I would say to look in people's homes. When we were looking for an apartment, we looked at a few complexes - and they charged about double what an in-house apartment did. A one bedroom was going for $1500 + utilities! We just thought that was too much money for a one bedroom apartment.

I personally would say complex. For the reasons of privacy, and just less drama. No issues w/landlords being cheap with heat, etc. . . .
I just think it avoids a lot of potential problems

I am so on the fence - when I rent in a private house I resent the invasion of privacy. When I live in a building I miss the personal contact.

I think you should keep your options open and see what strikes you. Every apartment I ever rented I knew it would be home (for at least a little while) the second I stepped inside.

I would say that unless you have the money to spend, you should go with renting in someone's house...most montly rents include all utilities..

I'm sorry to hear about you other ladies bad experiences..

Just my personal opinion - I'd go with an apartment complex....

But of course it has a lot to do with whatever you can swing!

I am not sure where you are looking but I pay 1200 for a 3 bedroom and the yard..

I love it.. Its a floor of the house and my landlords are wonderful..

They knew my grandparents from when they once lived in Brooklyn. What a small word..

good luck!!

Re: What would you recommend?

If you can afford it I would definitly suggest a complex. Almost everyone of my friends lives in an in house apartment and has some sort of issue and they are paying over $1000 a month! For that kind of money.... One of my BM had a basement apartment where you could distinctly hear the mother in the house yelling at her children every morning and night through the vents and then they got new wood floors so you could hear the chairs scrapping. One of the groomsmen lives in an attic and although he claims its not that bad, its way tooooo hot! Just think about how much money your spending before you settle for a personal house apartment when you could pay a little more and get a really nice complex. Not to mention when you complain to a landlord about their house, since its their home a lot of people take it very personally! Esp. if their the ones making the noise!

I personally have lived in apartments in someones home because it was alot cheaper. I think we really lucked out on this apartment. We live in a really nice neighborhood ( I can't tell you how many times I've left my car window open overnight and nothing ever happened) and have an absente (spl?) landlord (which if you can get that jump on it) and I recommend living upstairs if you can. I mean don't get me wrong it can be annoying playing with parking spaces or if you have another family living in the same house and there real *******s but it's already expensive enought to live in apartment so complexes have to be far worse because they know you are paying for the luxury of privacy. I pay $950 for a 2 bedroom (we converted the other bedroom to a dining room) with utilities included if that helps you.

I can make it simple. If you want privacy go in to a complex. We were renting in someones apartment in there home and didnt feel like we had privacy. But this is my opinion.

Re: What would you recommend?

FYI - the noise issues of a house vs complex. My upstairs neighbors (I live in a complex now) are incredibly loud sometimes, louder then anyone else that has lived above me in my life. That doesn't have much to do with the type of apt but the type of people, construction and floor covering.
