Whatever happened to free quirks when you are a newlywed/honeymooner?! VENT

We are in the process of booking a 'mini moon ', and all the places I call in Atlantic City do not give anything to newlymarried couples. We are going away to Tahiti for our honeymoon, and we did not even get upgraded. UGH! It is not like I am asking for the hope diamond, a bottle of wine or fresh fruit would be nice. Just felt like venting!

Your post made me think of when Chandler and Monica got married on friends. When the newly weds in front of them kept getting all the upgrades before they could!

i completely agree with you! for our HM we went to a cabin in North Carolina where we go every year. The old owners used to leave us cute little notes and nice little trinkets (candy, even a batch of lentil soup and cookies they had made) for our arrival. The place was bought by new owners several months before we arrived. They knew it was our HM, and they knew that we are frequent customers. Not only did they not leave us ANYTHING when we arrived (not even a note, a congratulations, NOTHING) but they asked us for more money than we usually pay (a LOT more) and then proceeded to come everyday (unannounced) the first week to make 'improvements' on the house (one day they brought a microwave, one day a TV, one day a garbage can) until i finally blew up and chewed them a new one for showing up and disturbing our HM. HELLO, we do NOT want to be disturbed, are you insane. And i told them a freikin bottle of champagne would have been nice! it is not like you didn't know we were coming (we booked months in advance!)

Needless to say, we will definitely not be going back.
gosh, guess i needed to vent too.
some people have NO sense!! RUDE!!

Geez, that sounded really horrible to do to you. I thought of the Friends episode also.

good question! I know at least in Hawaii, just about all couples visiting are on their HM, so you don't get much - a cheap bottle of champagne that was hard to finish and MAYBE an upgrade for a better room with view. That's about it!

We didn't get any upgrades on our flights.....

are you sure about tahiti? i thought they usually do the champagne and flowers if they hear you're a newlywed .. and then sometimes when you check in they'll upgrade your room if they're available.

sonia - is that question for me? I went to Hawaii - not sure about Tahiti. But like I said - in Hawaii they do give you a bottle of champagne and if available, upgrade your room.

I think today...people know that weddingd/HMs = $$$

but if it makes you feel any better...I used to work for a German airline (went all over the world)...and during the summer months when it got busy...it was to the couples advantage to tell the check-in person that they were on their HM...in the event of overbooking...we would look for people with special notes in their file...although if you weren't dressed the part...we wouldn't upgrade...

I should mention...we did get a bottle of champagne from the Ritz in Barcelona...but the guest before left their bottle of wine (and their note from the hotel)...so I guess they give something to everyone...we got the champagne, b/c it was HM

In Aruba there was a One Cool Honeymoon card that we got from the hotel. It included a card with discounts at restaurants, we got free gifts at check in, and a bottle of champagne on check in. (it was gross, but a nice touch). Though, the airline didn't bump us up to first class like I had hoped, nor did we get an upgraded room. The woman at the airline counter was like 'everyone going to Aruba is on their honeymoon' Whatever...

We are going to Tahiti in the summer for 15 days and then we are also going on a mini moon to Atlantic City just to get away for a few days and relax.(We are not gamblers, just a few slots). We told the cruise line for Tahiti we were going to be on our honeymoon, and so far nothing, not that I am after something free, but it would be nice to get something as a honeymooner. Atlantic city, nothing also.

I was a travel agent for years, when I booked a honeymoon I made sure I always sent either wine or fruit baskets or chocolates to each couple....so it could be your agent as well

I was told by my FSIL to bring my bouquet, and to tell people we were on our honeymoon ON the honeymoon, not before. They'll forget. Tell the airline people when you check in, tell the hotel when you check in...etc.

Also, often they won't give you an upgrade until they see if space is available, so you may not know until the day of.
