What's a Jack and Jill?

What's a Jack and Jill?

One of my bestfriends that lives in MA asked me if I was having a Jack and Jill for my wedding. I have no idea what this is. She said it's a party to help you raise money for your wedding. Does anyone know what it is or how you raise money? I've never heard of this before. Thanks!

I have only heard of that term used to describe bridal showers where men are invited. Usually, there less traditional then your typical bridal showers - more like a regular party with GIFTS for you and FH. Yay!!!

I may be wrong but that's been my experience.

Thanks! Maybe they do it different in MA.. I know NY weddings are sooo different from everywhere else. I think we'll have a Jack and Jill bridal shower. My fiance is Puerto Rican and he said that's how his family does it, just another excuse to drink and party!

I've always heard it refered to as bachelor/bachelorette parties, when you all go out as one big group together.

I'm originally from Canada and this is what the Jack & Jills were there:

The bridal party or the couple themselves would host a party....kind of a pre wedding party. They would send out invites....usually to all of those who would be attending the wedding normally.

Anyways, they would also have tickets for the party. Each ticket would be a certain price....kind of like admission......some are low like $5 per person and some are high like $30 per person. Just depends on the couple, party etc.

The money they make goes towards their wedding. The guests also bring gifts.

That's how it was done back home.......

But I'm sure there were other Jack & Jill's too ;)

i don't think a jack and jill refers to a dual bachelorette/ bachelor party. i'm pretty sure it's a shower where men are invited as well..... i've heard of jack and jill bridal and baby showers.

I was invited to two showers before and they said 'Jack and Jill' on the invite. One was a bridal shower and one was a baby shower. There were both guys and girls there.

Jack and Jill refers to anything that u include ur fh and the groomsmen which is not usually seperated by tradition

usually bridal showers and bachelor/ette parties.

I think the term has different meanings depending on what region you're from. I'm from the mid-Atlantic and it just means a co-ed gift shower. No money raising.

We're doing this, but I never heard this called a Jack and Jill.

I've always heard it in reference to a shower -- bridal or baby shower - where men and women are invited.

I have heard it used in regards to the bachelor/ette parties. You have them together.
I have also heard about it for bride/groom showers but not very often.

I guess I'll have to start using the correct term for our joint bachelor / bachelorette party!

Yes this is what I know a jack and jill party to be. Alot of people have it at a bar, they arrange for it with the manager obviously. YOu charge for people to get in and also guests get drinks at low prices like $2 or whatever.
