I have really been wondering about this. I want to have votives with petals around my centerpieces, and on the sweetheart table, but I am wondering if it is better to use fake petals instead of real ones. Of course the real ones smell wonderful, but don't they dry up very quickly?
Since the reception will be five hours would it be better to use fake ones? I an hardly tell the difference between the two.

I heard, though I dont know its true, that sometimes the petals can stain the table cloths? Get smushed etc??

The staining and the smushing doesn't surprise me at all.

IMO I think the fake would work better...more resilient

I agree I think the fake petals will withstand more and look just as pretty!

I am doing the same centerpieces and we are using silk petals.

There is also the option of getting freeze dried petals. Apparently they don't stain and dont dry up like regular petals. I don't know a lot about them, my aunt just keeps talking about them for the flower girls to drop when I walk down the aisle.

fake... if they're for the tables and not for tossing b/c i've seen real at a wedding and they looked brown on the edges. the good silk ones look very real.
For something like a table, I would go with silk. Real petals might start to shrivel also. The fake ones still have the same effect.

After looking at the site, I think that the fake petals may be better. I am starting to think about doing this instead of real ones.

I think that fake would be better. They won't turn colors.

OMG!! FH was suggesting fake ones last night and I was thinking that maybe it would look tacky, but after reading all of your suggestions I think that you are all right. I have a feeling my hallwouldcharge me for stained tableclothes and I dont want the pedals to get wilted. I think if we can find really good looking silk ones then we will do that
