What's my Hebrew name?

What's my Hebrew name?

Jewish gals,

My rabbi asked me to find out my Hebrew name for the Ketubah. My full name is Evelina and I always thought it was Chava in hebrew.... I looked it up online (myhebrewname.com) and apparently I can have one of 14 different variations?!?!? Any help would be lovely.

Hmmm... not sure. Do your parents know. My Hebrew name has nothing to do with my name. I'm Erica Lauren and my Hebrew name is Hiyah Leah (I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong).

FH's name and Hebrew name have the same first initials so I think my parent's did it wrong.

be careful with this.... my friend wanted to name her son after her uncle who recently passes, and everyone agreed his hebrew name was XXX... only when the 2nd or 3rd Rabbi saw his ketubah, did they discover it was actually different than everyone thought (the handwriting was a little squishy on the ketubah) She almost named her son the wrong name

make sure everything is triple checked!!

My hebrew name also has nothing to do with my name b/c my name isnt hebrew. My hebrew name is Maya, thats what im putting on the ketubah.

just remembered that I'm Chava.

Re: What's my Hebrew name?

you have to ask your parents!!!! Your hebrew name is not necessarily a derivitave of your own first name.
My first name is Amy....but My Hebrew name is a derivative of Sarah Elizabeth, after my two great grandmothers.
You could have been named after someone....you must check with your parents.

Re: What's my Hebrew name?

Is there any way that you can find the rabbi (or affiliated temple) that did your baby naming when you were a baby?

He would have a record of it.

If your parents didn't have a naming for you, then perhaps you weren't given a hebrew name.

Then, you should ask your rabbi what to do. You can make it the hebrew version of your own name....or if you wanted to can you 'name yourself' after someone who passed on that you loved very much ??????
What an honore that would be!!!!

I'm not rabbi though.....you should ask him; I don't want to give you the wrong advice.

thanks girly.
I was born in Lithuania and my parents didn't have a naming for me. I guess I'm just going to use chava since Evelyn is Chava according to www.myhebrewname.com

thanks!

Hey Ev,

so here's my take. I think Chava is a good bet to go with Eve. But a few things to consider-

1) If you didn't get a Hebrew name, you could pick one for yourself, and talk to your rabbi about how to make it official.

2) Depending on the rabbi, you could just do your english name on the ketubah.

hth!

My first name is Michelle and my hebrew name is also Chava Miera, I was named after my great grandfather, whose name was Mayer. Your hebrew name doesn't necessariely correlate with your english name.
