Our kitchen is being invaded by little black ants....what works best? Bug spray?

we had a problem when fh first moved in our apt. with little eensie beensie ants and traps worked for us---our landlord also got an extermanator (Wasn't really necessary but got the job done anyway) we haven't seen one since---they were gathering by the sink/ under the kitchen window!
