What's the maternity leave policy at your employer? (especially small businesses)

Could you please tell me how many weeks off (paid) you would get for maternity leave?

And if there is extra time you could take at half-pay, etc.

Thanks!

I was offered 4 weeks full pay and 6 weeks disability at 60%. I would then have the option for an additional 6 weeks provided I would be willing to work from home.

The non-contract employees are offered 8-12 weeks disability at 60% - depending on whether they have a c-section or normal birth. They can also accumulate and use their sick/vaca time (total 3 weeks)

I get 4 weeks full pay or 60% disability pay for 6 weeks. Anything else will be unpaid leave.

I work for a large company, so i dont know how helpful this will be to you, but we get 2 months maternity leave and then we can do a gradual return where either you dont get paid but dont have to come back for a year, or you can come back at any time during the year and work part time as much as you would like, which is what i will probably do, i dont think i could handle not working for a year but i am hopefully going to take 6 months and then come back part time for another 6 months

Thats a good question. I work for a small company, actually its family owned. I should ask though...although, I think my dad would pay me so his grandchild could be taken care of.

Wow you guys are lucky your employer pays some of your leave time.

In our company we are eligible to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. We are required to substitute any accrued sick time or vacation time for any unpaid medical leave. This substitution of paid leave time for unpaid leave time does not extend the 12 week leave period. While on maternity leave an employee can be eligible for short or long term disability. Which I believe is 60% of your base salary.

Large firm: 6 weeks of paid parental leave of absence (men too) and 6 weeks paid short-term. (so 12 weeks paid). I think we can also get an extra 2 months at 60% following the 12 weeks.

But my employer was also in Working Mother's magazines '100 Best Companies for Working Mothers'

Mid Size company - 8 weeks fully paid, then 8 weeks of transitional full time pay, but only in the office 21 hours a week.

Guys in our company only get two weeks paid leave.

no, not yet. tee hee hee.

But I like to plan ahead.
My review is coming up and since my employer does not yet have an established maternity leave policy (as I am her only employee), maternity leave is something I want to negotiate for. That way I'll know what the deal's going to be before we start trying to conceive.

I don't mind working from home, or part time, etc, but I'm going to need SOME time after the birth to just recoup and bond with the baby and get settled without thinking about work. All new mothers need that!

It's a complicated situation being the only employee, though......she may have to hire temporary help........but of course, I don't want to be 'replaced.'

I can take up to 12 weeks unpaid as fmla

I get paid for 2 weeks prior to birth
and 6 weeks after birth

Out of those 8 weeks, the first 4 are at 100% , the other 4 are at 80%

I work for a large institution and we use FMLA
where we can take only 12 weeks of leave during the year running sept to sept and use either accrued sick time for when the doctor indicates and be paid full time salary and then the rest with accrued annual time and be paid full salary as long as u have the days......after that 12 weeks its back to work........the good thing is fh gets 2 weeks fully paid and then he can take fmla for another 12 weeks and his year runs jan to jan so it works out we can cover childcare for about a year that way but 6 months willbe unpaid!
sorry so long
good idea for a post!

just another reason to leave the teaching profession

we have to use all of our sick/personal leave before we can go on maternity then they stop paying us summer pay which means that if we have to take off afterwards its unpaid...***** big time
