What's the maternity leave policy at your employer? (especially small businesses)

We get 6 weeks paid. we can prolonge it another 6 weeks unpaid (family act) to make a total of 12 weeks.

I think I am allowed to take up to 6 weeks maternity leave and since my company only has short term disability through NYS and not a separate policy, I would only get paid approx. $143 per week. What kind of BS is that. Please tell me who can afford a mortgage and all other bills with that pay? Sickening! I believe if I have vacation time and sick time, I can apply it to that but I only get 5 days sick time for a year.

well all of my OTHER benefits are awesome because I work for the government
HOWEVER - the maternity leave is a disgrace. . . we get NO PAID LEAVE. . .we have to use our sick and vacation time AND we cant even apply for disability
our positions are guaranteed for 7 months though so that is kind of cool. . . If you go on AFLAC BEFORE you get pregnant - they cover the pregnancy BUT you have to go on at least 3 or 6 months before you get pregnant,i forget which one

thanks for the info. I know I am going to have to do the AFLAC thing.

I just have to see what the out of pocket cost is.
