Whats the most inappropriate comment you have heard since becoming engaged?

Original post by Mrs_B

I've heard a few but the most recent one was from a co-worker. She asked where I was going on my Hm and I said Aruba and she had the audacity to say to me 'Oh, Aruba, I went there, yea I hated Aruba, I know alot of people love it there but I really hated that trip' UMM HELLO!??!?! My mouth dropped... I smiled and said 'Oh thats great to know, thanks!!' and walked away.

If during our engagement, DH's parents had told me one more time with regard to the planning 'You've done so much already, slow down!'

Um, yeah. We were engaged for 53 weeks, I didn't have loads of time. This also came from the MOG who didn't get her dress until less than a month before the wedding and complained that the Step-MOB chose her color first. What the heck did you expect her to do? Wait for you? She tried to!!!!!!!!

My mother's best friend, who did me a favor by serving as my make-shift 'day of' coordinator told everyone she was the WEDDING PLANNER. What a complete insult to everything I did!

This woman did nothing but affix pew bows and bring the bouts to the church. She was armed with a list of emergency phone numbers which she didn't need. GRRRR!!!!

So - could someone please inform me of the exact age of when i'm supposed to get married?

You hear you're too old.

I always hear I'm too young (I'll be 23 a month after the wedding)

So apparently you must be between the ages of 24 and 36 to get married at the right age then? UGH!

I have a really good one! I wasn't even engaged for a day when my brother's stupid girlfriend started freaking out! She had the nerve to wake my house up early in the morning from their argument about him not buying an engagement ring for her before my FI bought me mine!! Can you believe the balls on her! anway I was pregnant at the time so I didn't really do or say much to her but my sister and mother definitely gave it to her, first of all who does that? I mean I know they were dating for like 5 years and she wanted to be engaged but common that certainly is not the way to go about it...I didn't even have a pleasant 24 hours of bliss because of her!!

Oh I could go on and on with these. First, since we had a two year engagement, I would always hear from people 'Why are you waiting so long? Are you sure you really want to get married?' Um, if you have extra money to give me for my wedding I'll be sure and get married in a more 'appropriate' time frame.

Then, FH's grandmother...'I don't know if I can come to the wedding because it's on a Friday and everyone works and I won't be able to get a ride.' If you want it on a Saturday, why don't you foot the bill???

Oh and another one was my FMIL said we should just make one of our friends take pictures rather than spending all that money on a photographer!

My favorite is 'What's your *new* last name going to be?' -- asked by someone who knows that I've always said I would keep my own name!

Re: Whats the most inappropriate comment you have heard since becoming engaged?

This is more upsetting then annoying..but ....

I am 33 and for at least the last 5 years my grandmother (w/o fail) asks me during a conversation ' When are you going to get married? Dont you want a family?' She has dementia so she asks quite a few times during a conversation.

So when I got engaged I called her up and we talked and she asked when I was going to see her. ( SHe lives in California) SO i said well why dont you come out in August for my wedding? She said ' Ohhhhh, your getting married AGAIN?' I have been waiting for 5 years to give her the answer she has been wanting to hear and now she thinks I have already been married and going for round 2.

But she is coming!!!!

My idiotic (and still single) brother put in his unwanted two cents one afternoon when I was making plans with my mother; FH and I had a very tough time getting to where we are now, alot of people doubted our relationship and didn't think we would make it. Our wedding is so important to us and I was telling my mother that I want the ceremony to be extra special, that I wanted people to see that we truly love each other and were meant to be. Darling brother says (in his arrogant, I know everything tone of voice) 'You're getting married, aren't you? Isn't that proof enough that you love each other?'

Please bro - MYOB and we are not looking to PROVE anything.

This same brother has also commented on the money we are spending for the wedding. Once again - MYOB!

and

'don't bother putting details into the wedding, no one will pay attention to them anyway'

OMG!!! i get all of these too!!!! SO NERVY!!!

From an obnoxious co-worker

Oh and this from another obnoxious co-worker

'I hate the Swan Club...there are like 5 weddings at 1 time'...which is NOT even true! And this was said infront of me and another lady whose daugher is getting married there too

Oh, I got one. FH's cousin wanted to know why we would ever want to get married if we didn't want to have kids. Come on! Because we love each other!

Re: Whats the most inappropriate comment you have heard since becoming engaged?

The most inappopriate comment is the one friend who constantly offers to help me out with whatever I may need and tells me how much she cares about me and doesn't want me to have to stress over the wedding. Anytime I have ever said YES to an offer from her, she has not come through at all. Don't offer in the first place, then.
