Wacky, thanks so much for posting this question, and thanks girls for answering. I have been dying to know what the candle place holders looked like. And i love the 'cootie catcher' idea. We are planning on having wedding pictures from our parents/ grandparents' wedding around the site, but i really like the idea of including more pictures of those important to us who have passed. But i think we will have to try the candle placeholders, i bet they looked beautiful on the table!

Re: Whats the One Special thing
We named our tables after places in Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago where hubby and I are from
Our menu for our cocktail hour and the main course reflected our Caribbean heritage
Our theme was Caribbean, we served the infamous fruit cake/black cake as one of our favors
Our CD favor included some songs from our island
We had chocolate bars as our place card favors
We had Steel Pan players at our cocktail hour, hubby loved this, since Steel pan was orginally from Trinidad and Tobago
We used a well wishing board as a guestbook instead of regular guestbook it is now hanging on our living room wall
There are so many little things that you can do that reflect who you are.
Happy planning

Re: Whats the One Special thing
we had a family wedding picture table of parents, and grandparents on both sides of our new family
we incorporated our theme (understatedly) in our programs, placecards, favors, etc
guestbowl ala martha stewart
named our tables instead of just using numbers

Dubliner - Where are you getting the bagpipers from? I was thinking about doing that too. My fiance and I are interfaith and the ceremony is honestly mostly Jewish, so I thought about adding a little Irish flavor!! THANKS
Also, I am having the band learn the theme from Star Wars so they can play it when they announce my fiance and I for the first time as husband and wife. He is a HUGE Star Wars fan and everyone taht knows him, knows that. The best part is, He doesn't know!!

We're having our parents' wedding pictures on our card table - and we found our grandparents' wedding pictures, too - all 4 sets! Thought it would make a nice display - And I'm a sentimental family woman!!

Re: Whats the One Special thing
I wanted to do something in honor of my father who passed away 10 years ago, but something that would inspire laughter and love rather than tears and sorrow.
After my FH dances with his mom..... I'm having my brother say a few words about my father, who, by far, was one of the funniest people I've ever met (my brother is a close 2nd)....he's going to share a funny story and then everyone will be invited to the dance floor to dance to 'Ain't no mountain high enough'......an upbeat song with powerful words....

Re: Whats the One Special thing
Sometime during the reception we are having the DJ ask everyone to stand and go through a series of time frames, such as 'who has been married for more than one day?' then we would say us and he would say 'OK you sit down'! And so on and so forth until the couple married the longest is standing and we will present them with a gift and thank them for being such a great example of how love lasts!

Vickalina - We're doing that too!! I can't wait for it, because my FHs grandparents were originally not going to fly in from Florida, but we just found out last week that they are, so they are definitely going to win!! We're doing it to the anniversary waltz. My friend did it at her wedding, at it was a big hit!....I'll let you know how it goes!
PS - Thanks Tracy!!

Re: Whats the One Special thing
Had my bouquet made in two seperate pieces. At the end I gave one half to Matt's mom and sent the other half home with my dad for my mom. They both loved it!
