I am curious what the point of a guestbook at a wedding is. I dont think I have ever seen one at a wedding before. Can someone please fill me in on its importance so I can decide if I should use the one I have or not. Thanks!

I had a guest book so guests can signed their name it also can be used for knowing how many guests attended.

I think it is so you can look back on it and remember who was at your wedding.
Thats a great question though...

Re: What's the point of a guestbook?
The more I thought about a guestbook the more questions it raised. I understand when you go to a wake there is a guestbook so that the family knows who to send a thank you to. But the thing is, I know who is coming to my wedding. I am sending out the invitations. I konw their addresses otherwise they woudnt be there. So that has led me to this question of what's the point.

its mainly a tradition..now there are so many 'different' kinds. We are doing the polaroid one My dad bought us a polariod and a polaroid style guestbook..and we will do 'group' shots and have everyone sign around their pics...

For guests to sign in and wish well.

Also it gives people a chance to write something to the new bride and groom. Sometimes older couples will give the new couple some 'words of wisdom' or best wishes to the bride and groom.

i'm skipping the guestbook, and getting a picture matte, and having people sign it. Its the same idea, but I figured it was a little more useful.

Im not doing a guestbook either, every wedding Ive been to maybe a handful of guest signed it. Its just another dust collector to me, I will prob do a picture and have guest sign around that. at least that i can frame if I wanted to.

Good question. I guess it's so people can send their wishes. I'm actually going to do a guest 'scroll' instead of a book. I just thought it was a little different...

I'm thinking of a Martha wishbowl -- i like the visual and I think I could do something with the little cards -- like put them in an album with table cam pics...

Yeah, I'm really on the fence about this one too. I know it'll be a dust collector and I never sign guest books at weddings. I don't know what to do in lieu of it though...I can't imagine using the little cards from the Martha wish bowl either...or framing the signing mat. Hmmm...kind of at a loss here...

Re: What's the point of a guestbook?
Many of my friends had guestbooks and so many guests didn't see them and forgot to sign them. We are going to do the enlarged mat with our engagement picture in it. I already have a place picked out in FH's living room for it.

Well Lillian, there are lots of things -- can do a plate which people sign and then you have glazed and use as serving dish. I like the cards for a mixed media piece with photos and I think it will encourage creative responses. My sis did it and got the funniest answers.
