whats up with Mexico?

I am annoyed ... first i had to move my fortunoff registry and now im thinking about switching out honeymoon ... our TA is saying that the areas that are being affected is not any where near where we are going ... but i dont know what to do! i love our resort and i love our room and i want to cry thinking about switching it ... what are you girls doing ... o yea im going to excellence playa mujeres.

well i know in mexico city they are having a big problem with drugs and they have been kidnapping americans, jumping into taxis and stealing from americans, killing americans, all sorts of crazy things ... i was just reading about it ... and my dad saw this whole thing on CNN last night. But my travel agent says this has been going on for a while and they are just making it known now and that cancun is still safe as long as you dont take taxis and go off at night.

I'm going there too and I'm not in the least bit worried. Every day this week there have been posts about this and all I can say is that the areas of concern are a lot closer to the border and not where EPM is. Most of the places that I would think of taking a honeymoon all have the same issues (DR, Jamaica, Costa Rica, St. Lucia, cruises, etc.) if you are planning on staying in the resort area and doing excursions thru the hotel then you'll be fine. FH and I are really looking forward to spending a lot of time in the room and in our private pool just relaxing, we're not looking to be out and about doing tons of stuff every day so we're not worried, but if you are really swayed by what you are hearing then you should look at your options. Good luck!

I wanted to go there too... maybe if you go and I go, we will see eachother and we can hang out...

That is the whole reason I am not booking it

Me neither. I'm not worried at all....FH and I will have a great time. We are in a resort and we feel safe.

Thats so funny and we are both getting married at the westbury manor! i really fell in love with this place! i mean look at the pics! we got the room with the private pool on the roof. if i could find this resort some where else i may think about it butttt i dont want to give that room up. i have been reading and they say if you stay away from the border, mexico city, getting into cabs, going off by your self, going to outside bars and clubs ect. you should be fine theres always that little bit of fear inside me but ill be with FH yay

Mich I've been to Cancun twice,it's far from Mexico City it's no where near Mexico City...it's actually closer to Acapulco which is on the pacific side of the country. I can honestly say that I would walk around Cancun at 3 am and felt completely safe, I wouldn't switch the honeymoon. Anywhere you travel there is a risk of something happening don't let the news change ur mind.

I'm very worried as well.... we have our honeymoon planned for Cabo (we are staying at the One and Only Palmilla) and after watching the special on CNN last night .... im quite nervous about the whole thing.....

Mexico City is very far from Cancun. Don't let this scare you. It's like Harlem and The Bronx, there are very dangerous areas up there, but you are still going to come into Manhattan, right? And those areas are much closer to us than Mexico City is from Cancun.

I spoke to my TA yesterday becaus FH and I were going to change too but we decided against it the stuff that is going on is happening near the us/mexico border which is over 5 hours from our resortso FH and I have decided to go and have a great time I cant wait!!!

FH saw this in the news too....we're going to mexico for wedding in may so we looked into it...they said that tourists weren't really included in this...i think its still safe, but either way i plan on NOT leaving resort

Dont worry it wont affect you at all. But if by any chance you need to connect at airports DO NOT connect in Mexico City go thru Dallas. Stay on US soil for that. But cancun riviera Maya puerto vallarta is not affected.
