I'm starting to wonder...am I the only one without a big engagement party? I've been seeing so many people sending out invites, getting favors, and spending lots of money on this. No offense to those of you that did, i think they are beautiful but I just didn't really see it as necessary. My parents just invited my side of the fam over (FH's is out of state) our house and we had a cake and food catered but it was really low key. I did recieve quite a bit of gifts which i wasn't expecting. Are e-parties the thing now??
i feel like i missed something lol.

Re: What's with the big E-parties?
We had a 7-month engagement so I didn't think it was 'proper' to have an e-party so close to the wedding when I knew I was having a bridal shower lol. If our engagement was longer I might have had one...I don;t think you 'missed' anything by not having one though, it's up to the bride and groom and their families what they want to do and are comfortable with!

Re: What's with the big E-parties?
My e-party was amazing!!!!!!!!!! Mm FILs wanted us to have a party, and offered to pay for it! We had 75 people and that was just our close family and the bridal party.
a family member of my FH owns the restaurant we had it at - so it was cheep and also we went with a buffet style meal!
I DYIed everything (I'm a graphic designer) invitations, menus, fact cards, favor tags, center pieces, other decorations, thank you cards.
I never have a party without a favor - that's just me! We got painted wine glasses from the Christmas Tree Shop that were $2 each!
Oh, I grew up with the DJ - and he gave us a deal!
The party was so much fun and I can't wait for the wedding!

I'm not having one at all. I got engaged last year the day before my birthday and I had bday fun and told everyone about my engagement so I didn't see the need to have a separate party for the engagement.

Re: What's with the big E-parties?
we are doing a backyard party next month- 50-60 people. its more about introducing FH's and my families. Plus my mom and MOH and other friends are psyched about planning things and making the invites and favors, so I told the to go for it. my only caveat is that it remains simple and casual!

Re: What's with the big E-parties?
Our engagement is only 10 months long so we had a small engagement party. It was just our Sunday dinner in my family's fav Italian restaurant with about 35 people.
We did not have any sort of e-party. It's just not our thing. I was all about moving right into wedding planning.

we're not having one either. FH and I toyed with the idea of one for a while and finally decided that with everything else going on it just wasn't necessary for us.

Re: What's with the big E-parties?
were having an E BBQ...were not requesting gifts or expecting them. It is a gathering...we want the BP and both families to meet. nothing formal....far from a mini wedding. Its more like a back to school kick off (itll b in late AUG) and another excuse to celebrate my BDaY (mid Aug). WE just want everyone to get to know each other and have fun...no pressure. We wont be breaking the bank on this!
