I love tapas but I use to go to two places in Astoria that I really liked.

Sala - downtown is really good for a group (Bowery).

Tapas Lounge is good too but if I remember correctly it is more $$ - I went a few years ago - it is 1st and like 59th...

I also hear great things about Xunta.

I would love to hear more suggestions as well.

Xunta's is an awesome place to go! I usually go there several times a year. I absolutely love the stuffed green olives and the tomato bread! The sangria is awesome as well! I've also been to El Cid in Chelsea (15th St. between 7 and 8th aves. or 8 and 9th aves.) and the food there is great!

Xunta is GREAT...

But Niecey- you are right- that Astoria Tapas place is AMAZING and way worth the trip....!

I like Xunta....

I HATE Tapas Lounge- it's like $55 for a pitcher of Sangria...

Re: what's your favorite tapas in city?

I am talking about the one under the L by McDonalds - (we use to park our car in the garage right pass McD's.)- I like that place - I went there a bunch of times and I love the dessert of the strawberries in that champagne sauce! I could eat that everyday! I was so happy when I found that place after moving to Astoria - it has a small NYC restaurant feel in Queens and the waiters are always so friendly! Sassy-is that the same one you go to?

There is another place on Broadway and I think like 34 or 33rd in Astoria that has really good tapas. I am not sure if it is a bar or lounge or just one of those Euro bars they have on Bdwy. The name is Opus I believe. It is pretty new. Dh and I went one night and it was empty but we had this huge booth, some crazy music (and some good stuff from my dancing/guidette days!) and we had lots of wine and tapas and they were so good but we ran up a huge bill in no time (esp. for an Astoria restuarant!)

Talking about the restaurants in Astoria is making me miss it. So many different food places. Most of LI is Italian food - so boring! I miss the Columbian place..

ok ..I'll stop hogging the thread with my Astoria talk!

Yes- that is EXACTLY the restaurant I am talking about- it is SO delish! The BEST tapas I've had anywhere in NYC for SURE.

Where did you live in Astoria- I was on 33rd ST & 30th Ave.

I think I went there the 1st week it opened :)

We were practically neighbors :)

I always parked my car on either 35th or 36th streets- for some reason those blocks were good for it :)

I totally miss the food, don't you? Now I'm craving Scordalia! YUM.

I love Xunta too!

For small groups (2-3 people) my absolute favorite place is Rio Mar, on little West 12th St, by the West Side Hwy.

What's the name of the tapas place in Astoria under the L? I'm looking for a place to go tomorrow night for dinner with DH. What's it like on a Friday night? Do I need reservations? Will I get a table after 7 or 8 at night? Is it under the N line?

I can never remember the name of the restaurant - it is something like El Boureqan (I never remember and am always off!). Take the N train to Broadway and it is on the corner of 31st - past the McDonalds (I guess that is 34th Ave?). It is right under the train on the corner.

I never had reservations and had no problems or wait. I even went on 2 New Years Eve's at like 7/8pm! It should be fine on Friday at that time.

The restuarant in Astoria by McDonald's is called El Boqueron - and I love it! I've been there so many times - aside from their tapas - they also have great Sangria and great Paella!!!

Editted to say:

Their desserts are great to - I havent tried the strawberries with the liquer cream yet, but I have tried the mocha flan -AWESOME! And the apple tart - Delicious!
