My mom and dad just told us that their wedding gift to us will be our honeymoon! WOW!
FH and I are paying for wedding and reception ourselves...we've been on a budget...but decided to splurge a bit on the honeymoon. We both love to travel, and will be long overdue for a vacation by the time November rolls around. P.S. We decided to 'splurge' long before mom and dad offered to pay; some of our reservations are already made.
I don't want them to pay for our whole honeymoon. It just doesn't seem right (they are recently retired, moved to FL last year, and are just adjusting to their new lifestyle). I'd like to give them an average honeymoon price, accept their gift graciously, and then pay for the rest of the trip ourselves.
Ball park figures would help! By the way, we are going to the Caribbean (Anguilla and maybe St. Martin).
Thanks!! Happy planning!!

Re: What's your honeymoon budget?
We have a very large honeymoon budget because we are going to South Africa for 10 days. I think a $5K gift is very fair to pay for a honeymoon. If your parents want to give you more that is fine and they can just include some spending money too.

Re: What's your honeymoon budget?
My honeymoon budget is a lot - We are going to Italy for 12 nights / 13 days and not staying at cheap hotels. The hotel/transportation package was $5000 and the airfare was $1800 - We plan on spending money while we are there as well. I definitely agree with Michele that $5000 is a fair, average cost of a honeymoon.
We are going to Spain (4 cities - including an island) for 2 weeks...$7000 our airfare was $3000 and all the hotels are 4 and 5 stars...

WOW! I can't believe how much everyone is spending on their honeymoons! We were planning to spend about $4K and I thought that was a lot.
But, I guess you only do it once, right?

Re: What's your honeymoon budget?
I am only spending 5000. I have also known couples to spend 8000-10000. I think that is way too much $$$(I wish I had it though :))
I am also going to the Carribean. (Puerto Rico, Aruba, St. Thomas, Curacao etc) Can't wait!

Re: What's your honeymoon budget?
Ours was also a gift from my FIL's. They gave us $5000 and that is pretty much what we are spending. After all is said and done, it'll probably cost about $6000

Re: What's your honeymoon budget?
We are staying in Miami for a couple of nights (Miami Hilton Towers) -$100 a night and then going on a 7-day NCL Eastern Caribbean cruise. We reserved a nice room with Travelocity/AOL Travel and it came out to about $650pp with a $100 onboard credit. We are using Southwest to Ft. Lauderdale and it came to $112pp roundtrip. We still have to reserve a rental car though. So I am estimating about $1800 for the both of us. You can find some really great deals on the Internet.

My Fiance and I are spending $4800 for first class airfare, and 8 days, 7 nights at Sandals Grande St. Lucian. My budget allowed for $5000, so I'm happy that I'm under budget!!!
J&A...First class? well worth it...I used 80,000 miles to upgrade us to business!! but I can't wait...

Re: Steph...
We booked our honeymoon for April 15-22, 2003. We are staying in the Premier Oceanview room, which is an upgrade from the 'base room.' Our travel agent is really great, but we got a really great deal because the resort is new and will not open until August, so they are giving a 35% off special. Also, Air Jamaica is running really great specials right now as well. I think I just booked it at the right time (1 week ago)! I hope this helps!

Re: We spent
$2300 for a 7 night package with breakfast buffet to Aruba (air and hotel for deluxe ocean room, but got upgraded to a suite) and about $1000 in spending money (gambled a little, nice dinners every night, drinks, massages, water sports, etc. ) You don't have to spend a lot to have a great honeymoon. If we had another $1000 I would have stayed at a 5 star hotel instead of a 4 star, or stayed for 10 days, but ours was still wonderful. I'm very grateful!

Re: We spent
Nina...you feel $1000 was enough for the two of you for spending money, food, sight seeing trips and gambling? We are going to Aruba in October and I figured $2,000 we would need, is that too much??

Re: We spent
stacedz: We only did one 'sightseeing' trip, a 4 hour snorkeling trip for the both of us which was open bar and lunch for $108. We also spent around $100 on massages, I got my hair braided for $45, and we charged drinks on our room charge alot. I also bought beer and wine in the store and brought a soft cooler from home, which saved us some $$. However, my husband does not drink alcohol, so that 'saved' us some $$ too. I think you will be fine with about $1500 if you do lots of sightseeing and both drink a lot and eat at nice places. We didn't rent a car, but for 1 day we saw prices that start at $50-$60. The most expensive dinner for us was $110 with an appetizer, 1 drink, lobster special and chicken entree and cappucino. We also spent about $150 in the casinos (lost it all). So, if you like to drink, eat at expensive places and gamble, I would brink more $$.
