Should I start to inquire about blocking off rooms for guests? How did you go about knowing the number of rooms?

Re: When?
I kind of estimated how many rooms i may need. How many OOT's u have. Usually the hotel could help you out. But i blocked my rooms about 2 months ago. SO yes do it at least by 10 months before.

You call them & say that you are calling to inquire about blocking rooms for a wedding & they will walk you through it. They will tell you what you will need to know. **Remember to ask by what date do they need to book by & if your credit card will be charged if all rooms are not fulfilled or do they release them at no charge.

Re: When?
My wedding is in June and we have a TON of OOT guests, so we booked rooms at 2 hotels at the beginning of this year (January). One of the hotels we picked actually has a lot of guests that stay the entire summer, so they had limited room availability. Ask the hotels - they are very knowledgable and answered all our questions.

Re: When?
I actually did it yesterday and i am glad i did...i found out how expensive it is and i felt better to send out the info with the save the dates and give everyone ample time to plan..
when you mail out save the dates is best and they usually suggest 10 rooms unless you know for sure how many you need..

Hmmm see this is part of our problem... I think we're only going to have like 6 OOT guests! But I know for my friends wedding last year a lot of us got a hotel room just so we wouldn't have to drive, but it's hard to tell how many people will want to do that.

Re: When?
Most of us are staying over for the night - since the entire bridal party lives in Brooklyn so I am blocking approx 50 rooms

Re: When?
I am blocking mine next week, and putting the info in my STD's. Note- some hotels will not let you block more than 330 days in advance!!

MY SUGGESTION IS DO 8/10 ROOMS BUT MAKE SURE THEY RELEASE THE ROOMS AT NO CHARGE TO YOU THAT WAY YOU ARE COVERED. MOST HOTELS JUST RELEASE THE ROOMS.
ALSO IF YOU ARE DOING STD'S I SUGGEST PUTTING THE INFO IN THE ENVELOPE AS WELL AS YOUR WEDDING INVITATION. I DID THAT TOO!

Re: When?
I just did my block yesterday - the hotel could only start the block 50 weeks in advance and they said it fills up quickly, so I didn't want to take chances because we have quite a few OOT-ners and this hotel has a restaurant and bar area and we're getting married in the afternoon, so I want a nice place to go afterwards.
If the hotel will block rooms now for your wedidng and you know you have a few OOT guests, then I'd block now - doesn't hurt, ya know?

Re: When?
ps- alot of places will only let you room block 3 -6 months in advance but there are acceptions. Have you chosen your hotel? Once you do that you can room block the second they let you :)

Re: When?
We booked our block of rooms the month after we got engaged because we will have so many out of towners. We counted up the number on our guest list that would need rooms and then just blocked off that amount of rooms. They have to reserve their room at the latest a month in advance and then the unused rooms in the block can be released to the hotel to use for incoming guests outside of our wedding. HTH!
