When should I be mailing out invitations? FH and I are stumped. We also don't know when to set the RSVP date.

Great, thanks! 4 and 8 weeks was what I mentioned to FH, but he asked if that was too little time and made me second guess myself.
By the way, FM me those links from the thread you started about photographers.

My wedding is October 7, and I plan on sending them out end of July. I need an extra 2 weeks to hand calligraphy the seating chart I'm doing.

I'm guessing as long as I send it late July/Early August, we'll be ok. I want time to invite additional people without it being obvious that they're 'B list' in case we don't make our minimum.

I didn't realize you had a B-list...in that case, you might consider sending them a week earlier than you intended...just to give those ppl time to get the invite and send back the RSVP.
I don't think you should second guess your dates.FH and I were very uncertain as to when we're supposed to send out the invites/make the RSVP date by, but we did extensive research on this and consulted with several people that all agree that are dates are legit.
My mom is freaked out because she, much like your FH, thinks its cutting it too close, but I think if you send it out too early, people will forget and the invite will just gather dust on their desk. HTH!

4 and 8 weeks is perfect, which is what I did. You don't want to give guests too much time becaue they'll likely stash the RSVP card somewhere and forget to send it back. You want to make sure you give them just enough time to feel rushed to send it back and that you'll have time to create the seating chart etc.

Our RSVP date is a little more than a month before the wedding and we sent them out 3 months before. You can also send them 2 months before.
Sent date 3/18/11 RSVP date 5/15/11 Wedding date 6/19/11

We are planning to send ours out beginning of August and put the RSVP date as September 15th to give ourselves some time to reach out to stragglers. Good luck with everything!!
