When addressing the outer envelope is it OK....

To put Mr. and Mrs. XXXXXX
and Family

....if I am inviting their children instead of putting all the kids names. I do not have an inner envelope so I have to make the reference on the outer. Some people have 2 or 3 kids and I feel like it is not necessary to list all their names....am I wrong?

You can address it just as you said. I see no reason to write out all the names.

I did the same thing, its just too much of a hassle to put everyone's name, nobody will get offended.
